chargerwide body and the 392
packand in this video we are going to take them both for a ride and Let's see
whichof these two is the one you should buy, so let's start with the obvious differences between the two now, other than price,
whichI'll get to at the end of this video. I'm going to leave you waiting let's talk about power plants because here we have a 6.4 liter hemi mated to an 8 speed automatic that makes 485 horsepower which is a lot but here with the
hellcatwe also have a hemi but this one is supercharged it produces you know, this 707 horsepower is also paired with an eight speed automatic transmission and we'll be shredding those rear tires all day because well that's what hellcats do so right now I'm thinking which one sounds better well there's only one manner. to find out of course the hellcat has 222 m More horsepower, but what else do you get when you get up close to the Hellcat?
Well let's go through the two cars point by point and we'll show you now cosmetically this
package and that Hellcat are almost identical they both have these big fenders that let you have these big old pirellis 305's they both have stiffer springs they both have more downforce they're both more track fit maybe the easiest way to tell them apart is let me show you here the scat pack has this little bumblebee badge right there and of course the 392 hemi on the side now where they're different is when you it's all about numbers so let's talk about that of course you'll pay more for the hellcat but you'll get more 0 to 60 3.6 seconds according to dodge scat pack 4.3 seconds on track the hellcat is about a second faster but maybe the easiest way to tell it apart also of course the badge is the hood if you look at the hood of the hellcat it has a big air intake with these two types of side air intakes the scat pack just has that unique air intake this is the srt hood so it joins along the line with both narrow and wide body cars the sill is different it's unique to the car it helps accentuate the car already has a little bit of coke bottle it has nice hips so we really want to accentuate that as well as tie it to the front and rear flares and this one is specific to hellcats so the scat pack has a different spoiler this is it about performance and downforce so i borrowed this octane red double striped hellcat and got my little cheat sheet here it tells you everything that comes with it now of course i have 305 35 zr20 which are great but i have things like a thousand bucks in stripes those brembos that are black that's 500 bucks with a total price of about 80k not cheap but you get a lot of vehicle for your money now let's talk about the infotainment system on this vehicle before you take it for a unit that I've been testing cars for about 10 years now and the fca infotainment system isn't the most sophisticated, it certainly isn't the most capable, but it is by far the most intuitive and that's why for me it's one of the best. best ones i have now i have four different drive modes here i have auto custom sport and track we are going to pop and custom and that tells you exactly what you can change of course i have the red key so have or 707 horsepower i also have my transmission in sport mode i have my paddle shifters on i have my traction control set to street mode sport suspension which of course is adjustable and steering which is also adjustable for sport if you want to go crazy and get it going mode and at that point it really hits the track one there it is at that point it's really up to you to keep the car on the track because all the babysitters are gone and this becomes a pure race car so I'm going to go from back to automatic i'm going to keep the traction control on and we're going for a little ride and we're going to talk about the differences between this vehicle and it's less powerful let's call it brother the scat pack the biggest difference between these two vehicles is basically this , what do I want to say with that? about the size of the super
chargerthat lives under that hood and that gives you more horsepower and gives you that supercharger wine, so while both of these cars sound great, this one has the added benefit of having that induction noise from supercharger or wind so when I floor there you go there's that supercharger wind and I love that it's like you know that eating ice cream with chocolate sauce on top The ice cream itself is good but the chocolate sauce makes it Much better, so obviously the big tires are a big change.

Yeah those are big 305 305 275 to 305 it's available both as a standard four season and as a three season option. Obviously the tires are very sticky, so we switched to the stiffer 38 front spring rate. significant change in front spring rate and then we changed the front and rear sway bars 18 stiffer in the front 52 stiffer in the rear obviously with more grip you will have a tendency to have more roll angle we wanted to counteract that with higher sway bars It comes with the adaptive bilstein suspension the shocks have been rotated significantly and then another big change we made new for the 20th model year for this program was the eps we added we went from hydraulic power steering to electric power steering so by doing that we know the different modes that come with the street sport and track setup for the steering you know you get good low speed assist for parking lots and stuff like that now i'm on the scat pack and i have my little trick sheet like always and this scat package starts at 39 995 with a destination of 1500 that you are going to pay for the package ete de scat or for the hellcat in this case although you have to add six thousand dollars for the wide body and keep in mind that all Hellcats for 2020 will always be wide bodies there are a couple of other options that bring the total price to fifty and six thousand and fifty five dollars and this is indiego blue which is actually a really cool color now let's take it for a ride and talk about the difference between scat pack and hellcat one of the things that is not different is the fact that both vehicles come with the exact same size wheels and tires front and rear which is why we're looking at 305 35 zr20s and the reason they aren't staggered and you think they would be is because dodge says they want you to be able to swapping the rear tires to the front and vice versa, which was nice when we had the Hellcat Challenger because in the 10,000 miles we had, we went through four, that's right, four sets of tires, so I have 485 horsepower. those of power and 475lbs of torque I'm basically missing the supercharger which makes the difference over 200 horsepower and if you were to ask me what's the difference between a scat pack and a hellcat let's use the analogy from the cat, the difference is that this is the lion, while the hellcat, which would be the tiger, the tigers are bigger, more powerful, they are also a little calmer and a little less aggressive lines. on the other hand they tend to be a little more dangerous in a lot of ways because they're a little more nimble a little faster and a little more aggressive and that's what I like about this scat pack it doesn't feel like it's not it's as heavy as a hellcat it's a lot more throwable a lot more nimble a lot more in a way an attractive vehicle you don't have all that power ready to bite your ass if you put it in controllable track mode it feels like a car you could enjoy on a daily basis Plus I'm getting better fuel economy once again I haven't driven it more than eight miles and now we're at 15.2 so standard on these cars is Made up heated front seats leather there's the AC. rbon suede package which is super exciting because it's real carbon fiber panels on the instrument panel and console as well and then the scat package has a new flat bottomed steering wheel that's also leather wrapped that's cool again kind of give that bridge between performance and premium so new this year is a wave of candy color in the interior too which is really cool it kicks it up a notch inside both cars again they are nearly identical most The difference is probably that on the hellcat, you get this carbon fiber inlay that's around the infotainment screen and around the shifter, but otherwise they both have an 8-speed transmission and they both have something that's very magical and let me show you what i mean by that yes its a usable back seat i know it sounds a little pedestrian but keep this in mind this charger wide body will do 196 miles per hour the of narrow body 204 miles an hour its the fastest production sedan you can buy and yet i'm sitting behind me i have enough knee room i have enough head room but i could easily go to the airport pick up my mom put her in the back of this and put all her stuff in the trunk and then if i run down the highway the zip home at almost 200 miles an hour and that to me is the magic of this car the other thing about the hellcat is which is heavy i mean everything about this vehicle is just double xl there is an old spinal tap movie where they say it goes to 11 well on this vehicle everything goes to 11 the sound the fury the suspension the lack of traction control the weight from the steering I mean it's just a big heavy powerful car and you feel like you're driving a big heavy powerful car maybe a gt in the best sense of the word it's the kind of car that if you're in the freeway you want that weight, you want that stability, but can it be pulled?
It is light? You know the next thing next to a miata hell? no but it does one thing the scat pack doesn't do and that's accelerate faster so let's do a quick blast down this empty road so you can hear what that sounds like and I wore out my tires in 1st and 2nd even with those big 305 this supercharged hemi will easily overwhelm the amount of rubber that is on this vehicle and that maybe great or if you're really trying to get the power down on a bit of a challenging race track now of course I'm on the scat pack and if i were to close my eyes and just use my hands to feel it would be hard to tell the difference between the outback, the scat pack and the hellcat this steering wheel isn't furry that's ok not a big deal i don't see much fiber carbon here not a big deal but overall the interiors are almost identical this one is a bit more colorful because it's red but you can also get that one with a more colorful interior here you get cloth there you get all leather not much room for d You maneuver between the inside of the scat pack and the inside of the helicato and you're really not missing much when it comes to liking the functionality of this car for sure the materials aren't that great on both cars there's a bit of cost cutting like i feel here where the cup is The stand is the plastic is a bit sticky but overall everything else is pretty much identical with the biggest difference being that although this doesn't have the supercharger wine the noise coming out of The back is gorgeous and, let's face it, 485 horsepower. always enough to put a big smile on my face, probably thinking who the hell would buy a hellcat for a luggage room, well we would, in fact we had a challenger hellcat for almost three years and the most useful feature of that vehicle It wasn't the big old hemi in the front it was the fact that it had a huge trunk or it could steal a lot of stuff yeah I even took it skiing because these seats fall off what crazy thing is that you put snow tires on this bad boy and you have probably got the fastest ski car in the world and really when you think about it the camaro has become a pure sports car and the charger challenger twins are triple american cars and the mustang is somewhere in the middle and the magic behind these cars and the fact that they are very popular and sell very well is the fact that not only can you put people in the back seat but you have loads of space for luggage for all her stuff so when I went to pick up my mom at the airport and my mom is carrying a bunch of stuff this vehicle well the defiant version of this had no problem swallowing all the luggage she brought both cars can actually get very good fuel economy but when you use the supercharger you will be using a lot of fuel and to show that I've been driving this car for about I don't know seven miles and I'm getting 11 mpg combined so yeah I've Been using the supercharger a bit if you're buying a scat pack or hellcat for fuel economy you're probably buying the wrong car but let's just say you care about that which I agree a lot of people do. easily get near high 20s low 30s if you kept that kind of hemi at 3000rpm so its pretty amazing that you can have a car that does almost 200mph and withoutOn the highway though it gets almost 30 mpg and I think that's the other magical thing about these cars they're just very classic American muscle cars without that horrible very classic American muscle car fuel economy so let's see what 485 horsepower sounds like when i put my foot here we go and note you're not i'm going to get that super charger wine but you'll get a gorgeous growl keeping up with that lion out of baxter analogy here we go yeah that's pretty fast sounds mean and angry and hungry very hungry of mustangs and camaros i promised you the difference in price and it is significant the hellcat starts at about seventy thousand dollars and that is a very nice and well equipped hellcat and the scat package about forty six thousand dollars so that is a price difference of twenty four thousand dollars but for that of course you get over two hundred more horsepower but from the outside you basically get the same car so So which one would you buy after owning a Hellcat Challenger?
I am going to surprise you and I will choose that car.
