Feb 28, 2020
For

2020

there is a new Dodge Sheriff in town and it has a wide body. Hey guys, right behind me are the

2020

Dodge Hellcat

widebody

charger

and the 392

scat

pack

and in this video we're going to take them both for a ride. and we're going to see

which

of these two is the one you should buy, so let's start with the obvious differences between the two now, other than the price,

which

I'll get to at the end of this video, yes, I am. I'll leave you waiting let's talk about the power plants because here we have a 6.4 liter hemi mated to an 8 speed automatic that produces 485 horsepower which is a lot, but here with the

hellcat

we also have a hemi but this one is supercharged. makes, you know, this 707 horsepower also combined with an eight-speed automatic and we'll shred those rear tires all day because well, that's what Hellcats do, so at this point I'm thinking which one sounds better, well, just there is a way.

To find out, of course, the Hellcat has 222 more horsepower, but what else do you get when you step up to the Hellcat? Well, let's go over the two cars point by point and show you now cosmetically that this

scat

pack

and that Hellcat are almost identical. They both have these big fenders that allow you to have these big old 305 pirellis. They both have stiffer springs. Both have more downforce. Both have more capacity for the track. Perhaps the easiest way to tell them apart is let me show you right here. The package has this little bumblebee badge right there and of course the 392 hemi on the side.

More Interesting Facts About,

Now where they are different is when it comes to the numbers so let's talk about that so of course you will pay more for the Hellcat but we will get more 0 to 60 3.6 seconds according to Dodge Scat Pack 4.3 seconds On the track the Hellcat is about a second faster, but perhaps the easiest way to tell apart, of course, the badge is the hood. If you look at the hood of the Hellcat, it has a large air intake with these two types of intakes. side air the scat pack just has that single air intake this is the srt hood so this ties in across the line with the narrow body and wide body cars the sill is different unique to the car it helps accentuate the car already it's got quite a bit of coke bottle it's got some nice hips so we really want to accentuate that as well as tie it into the front rear flares and this one is specific to Hellcats so the scat package has a different spoiler this one has to do with with performance and downforce, so I borrowed this Octane Red Double Stripe Hellcat and got my little cheat sheet here.

It tells you everything that comes with it now of course I have 305 35 zr20's which are great but I have things like stripes worth thousands of dollars those Brembos that are black they cost 500 dollars and the total price is about 80,000. It's not cheap, but you get a lot of vehicles for your money. Now let's talk about this. The vehicle's infotainment system before taking it for a drive. I've been testing cars for about 10 years and FCA's infotainment system isn't the most sophisticated, certainly not the most capable, but it is by far the most intuitive and that's why it's for me. one of the best now I have four different drive modes here I have custom car sport and track let's pop and custom and that tells you exactly what you can change of course I have the red key so I have 707 horsepower I also have my transmission in sport mode I have my paddle shifters on I have my traction control set to street mode sport suspension which of course is adjustable and steering which is also adjustable to sport if you want to go go crazy and put it in track mode and in that moment you actually get onto track one, there it is, at that point it's up to you to keep the car on the track because all the babysitters are gone and this becomes a pure race. auto, so I'm going to go back to auto, I'm going to keep the traction control on and we're going to go for a little ride and we're going to talk about the differences between this vehicle and your less. powerful, let's call it brother, the scat package, the biggest difference between these two vehicles is basically this, what do I mean by that?
2020 dodge charger hellcat widebody vs scat pack widebody you ll be surprised which one we d buy
Well, it's about the size of the super

charger

that lives under the hood and that gives you more horsepower and gives you that supercharger wine. So while both cars sound great, this one has the added benefit of having that supercharger induction or wind noise, so when you step on it, there you have that supercharger wind and I love that it's like you're eating ice cream with sauce of chocolate. On top of that the ice cream itself is good, but the chocolate sauce makes it much better, so obviously the big tires are a big change, yes those are big, 305 305, instead of 275 to 305, it is available for both four stations as standard as for three stations.
Very sticky tire optional, obviously, so we changed the front spring rate 38 stiffer, a significant change in the front spring rate and then we changed the front and rear stabilizer bars 18 stiffer in the front 52 stiffer in the back rear, obviously, with more grip you're going to We tend to have more roll angle, we wanted to counteract that with larger stabilizer bars, it comes with the Bilstein adaptive suspension, the shocks rotated significantly and then another big change we made for the '20 model year for this program were the eps that We added that we went from hydraulic power steering to electric power steering, so by doing that, we can learn the different modes that come with the street and track sport settings for the steering, you know you get a Nice low speed assist for parking and stuff like that. now I'm on the scat pack and I have my little cheat sheet as always and this scat pack starts at 39,995 with a destination of 1500 which you are going to pay for the scat pack or for the

hellcat

in this case although I have to add six thousand dollars for the wide body and keep in mind that all Hellcats for 2020 will always be wide body.
There are a couple more options that bring the total price to fifty-six thousand and fifty-five dollars and this is the indiego blue, which is actually a really cool color, now let's go around and talk about the difference between the scat pack and the hellcat. One of the things that is not different is the fact that both vehicles come with exactly the same size wheels and tires. front and rear so we are looking at 305 35 zr20 and the reason they are not staggered you think they would be is because

dodge

says they want you to be able to swap the rear tires for the front tires and vice versa which was The good thing is that we had the Hellcat Challenger because in the 10,000 miles that we had it we went through four, that's right, four sets of tires, so I have 485 horsepower and 475 pounds of torque.
Basically I'm missing the supercharger which makes up the 200+ horsepower difference and if you were to ask me what the difference is between a scat pack and a hellcat let's use the cat analogy. The difference is that this is the lion, while the hellcat would be the tiger. Tigers are bigger, more powerful, they are also a little calmer and a little less aggressive, on the other hand, they tend to be a little more dangerous in many ways because they are a little more agile, a little faster and a little more aggressive, and that's what I like. this package of turds doesn't feel because it's not as heavy as a hellcat, it's much easier to launch, much more agile, much more attractive in some ways, you don't have all that horsepower ready to bite you in the ass if you put it in mode track, this car feels much more controllable, it just feels like a car I could enjoy on a daily basis, plus I'm getting better fuel economy once again.
I haven't driven it more than eight miles and right now We're at 15.2, so in these cars the standard is the invented leather for the heated front seats, there's the carbon suede package, which is super exciting because they're decorative panels. real carbon fiber on the instrument panel and also on the console, and then the scat package has a new flat bottom steering wheel that is also wrapped in leather, it's great again, it gives you that bridge between performance and premium, which new this year is a wave of caramel color on the inside, which is really cool, lifts it up quite a bit.
A little bit inside, both cars are once again almost identical, the biggest difference is probably that on the Hellcat you have this carbon fiber inlay that's around the infotainment screen and around the gear shifter, but Otherwise both have an 8 speed transmission and both have something that is magical and let me show you what I mean by that, yes it is a usable back seat. I know it sounds a little vulgar, but keep this in mind. This wide body charger will run at 196 miles per hour, the narrow body at 204 miles per hour. the fastest production sedan you can buy and yet I'm sitting behind me I have enough knee room I have enough head room but I could easily go to the airport to pick up my mom put her in the back of this and put all your things. the trunk and then if I drive on the highway the rack comes home at almost 200 miles per hour and that to me is the magic of this car.
The other thing about the Hellcat is that it is heavy. I mean, everything about this vehicle is just dual XL. There is an old man. lumbar puncture movie where they say it goes to 11, well in this vehicle everything goes to 11. the sound, the fury, the suspension, the lack of traction control, the weight of the steering, I mean it's just a car big, heavy and powerful and you feel like you're driving a big, heavy and powerful car, maybe a GT in the best sense of the word, it's the kind of car that if you're on the highway you want that weight, you want that stability , but can it be thrown away?
It is light? Do you know the following? thing next to a miata, no, but it does one thing that the scat pack doesn't do and that's accelerate faster, so let's do a quick blast down this empty road so you can hear what it sounds like and I ran my tires through first and second gear, even with those big 305's this supercharged hemi will easily overwhelm the amount of rubber that's on this vehicle and that's maybe great or if you're really trying to put the power down on a bit of a challenging drag track Now of course I'm on the Scat Pack and if I closed my eyes and just used my hands to feel, it would be hard to tell the difference between the interior of the Scat Pack and the Hellcat, this steering wheel has no hair, okay?
No big deal, I don't see much carbon fiber here, no big deal, but overall the interiors are almost identical. This one is a little more colorful because it's red, but you can get it with a more colorful interior. Well, here you have cloth, there you have all leather, there's not much wiggle room between the interior of the scat pack and the interior of the helicat and you're really not missing out on much when it comes to liking the functionality of this car. the materials aren't as good on both cars, there's a little bit of cost cutting, like I feel down here where the cup holder is, the plastic is a little tacky, but overall everything else is pretty much identical and the biggest difference is that even though this thing doesn't have the supercharger wine, the noise coming out of the back is magnificent and let's face it, 485 horsepower is always enough to put a big smile on my face, probably thinking who the hell would buy a Hellcat like luggage.
Well, in fact, we had a Challenger Hellcat for almost three years and the most useful feature of that vehicle was not the big old hemi in the front, but the fact that it had a huge trunk or could steal a lot of stuff, yeah I even took it skiing because these seats fall off, how crazy is it that you put some snow tires on this bad boy and you have probably the fastest ski car in the world and really, when you think about it, the Camaro has become a pure our sports car and the Charger Challenger twins, these are triple American sports cars and the Mustang is somewhere in between and the magic behind these cars and the fact that they are very popular and sell very well is the fact that Not only can you put people in the back seat, but you have plenty of luggage space for all their stuff, so when I went to pick up my mom at the airport and my mom is carrying a lot of stuff, this vehicle, well, the version challenger of this one had no problem swallowing all the baggage she brought, both cars can actually achieve very good fuel economy, but when you use the supercharger you will use a lot of fuel and to show I have been driving this car for about 10 years.
I don't know seven miles and I get 11 mpg combined, so yeah, I've been using the supercharger a little bit. If you're buying a scat pack or a hellcat to save fuel, you're probably buying the wrong car, but let's say you care about that, and I agree that a lot of people make this scat pack get about 2 mpg combined better than the Hellcat now ,When we had our challenger going down the highway, you could easily get almost 20 seconds and low 30s if you kept that Hemi. something like 3000 rpm, so it's pretty amazing that you can have a car that goes almost 200 miles per hour and yet on the highway it gets almost 30 mpg and I think that's the other magical thing about these cars: They are just very classic Americans. muscle cars without that horrible fuel economy of such classic American muscle cars so let's see what 485 horsepower sounds like when I put my foot down here we go and keep in mind you won't get that super charger wine but you will get a magnificent. growl continuing with that lion out of the baxter analogy here we go yeah that's pretty fast it just sounds mean and angry and hungry very hungry for mustangs and camaros i promised you the difference in price and it's significant the hellcat starts at about seventy thousand dollars and It's a very nice and very equipped Hellcat and the scat package around forty-six thousand dollars, so it's a twenty-four thousand dollar price difference, but for that, of course, you get over two hundred more. horsepower, but from the outside you basically get the same car, so which one would you buy after having owned a Hellcat Challenger?
I will surprise you and choose that car, yes I would buy the scat package because for 46 thousand dollars to get 485 horsepower which is a performance car bargain and best of all because that car is a little bit lighter and can reduce the power. I think from a dynamic point of view, it's actually the better car, yes, it's a better muscle. car that has that huge 707 horsepower supercharged engine, but that car for 46 grand that will handle almost anything on the road and leave enough money in your pocket to buy gas insurance and some tickets to the race track, as usual. this is a roman report for the fastlane auto check out tflcar.com for more news views and of course hellcat versus scat pack american muscle car reviews see you next time ciao drove one in the snow uh yes, we have them, they are fine, yes, all four.
All-season tire, not a snow tire, it won't work like a three-season tire in the dry, but it's quite drivable, yes, I have the impression that you were completely closed, the car was going on the road sideways, no, no, no, it's not that bad. It's not really the fourth season, it's actually a decent tire.
