2019 Subaru Forester Trim Levels Explained

Feb 27, 2020
What's up guys Brendon Hancock here with another groov

subaru

episode today? And today we have brought five

2019

Subaru Foresters, one of each

trim

level, to show you the difference in the finishes of the

2019

Forester. Let's now take a look at the 2019 Subaru. Forester has been completely redesigned, it is a completely new body style and it's now on the famous global platform that many of our other vehicles are on, so the global platform, if you're not familiar with it, is quite modular in nature, allowing you to widen it and lengthen it to accommodate vehicles from different sizes and a couple of statistics about not only is it a 70% more rigid chassis but it has 40% better energy absorption and also 50% less body roll, so all the vehicles we have seen that now they're built on this global platform they're significantly more comfortable to drive quieter inside and safer overall, which you know, we're not here to crash them and stuff like that to test it personally, but the safety ratings definitely show that now too there are five

trim

levels

for 2019 on the Forester, we have the 2.5 I here, which we'll get to in a second, we have the premium trim level above the all-new Sport for 2019 and then we have the Limited and the Touring at the end, so Those are the five trim

levels

.

You may notice one thing that is missing and that is the turbocharged model. Now for 2019 we have a slightly tuned version of the previous 2.5 I engine that has been increased. boost a bit up to 182 horsepower and we still see excellent fuel economy at 33 miles per gallon on the highway, but we don't see any turbocharged anymore, which is very, very sad. I miss that I love the Forester that my wife actually has. one of those, but they weren't really selling, you know, we see a lot of them here in Colorado, but there's like five percent of the total Forester sales were turbos, so the cost didn't make sense, but the best thing is that es on the global platform is now super super comfortable and quiet, so let's take a look at the different trim levels one by one, starting with the 2.5 I.

Now this is a 2.5 I trim level, so some people They like to call it base model because do you know what's down there? But now it has a lot of standard amenities and one thing it has that is not necessarily standard is the alloy wheel package, so on a Forester 2.5 i, the standard will be a 17-inch steel wheel with hubcaps. on it which we rarely see most of them will be ordered with what is called the alloy wheel package with what we see here so we have a 17 inch alloy wheel here and part of that package will also give the roof rails that you see up here, which I think just tie it together, it looks a little bare without having them on top, now a couple of interesting things, we'll see that our standard now we have automatic headlights on the base with LED headlights here , so we don't have fog lights, but we do have LED headlights, which is awesome with these LED daytime running lights in there, so it's definitely nice to see that kind of high end even on a base model, a couple of other things that We're going up to the base that we weren't there before, you're also going to get a view, so we've got the visual safety system up here that's going to give you features like pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, keep assist. the lane.
2019 subaru forester trim levels explained
Now it will not come standard with blind spot detection, so you don't have the standard blind spot on this vehicle. It is a technically different technology that uses vision. You know, these 3D, you know, full color, see everything as if it were a person. While you know that blind spot detection in rear cross traffic actually uses radar, so there are different systems, you could have one without the other, etc., but it's very nice to at least see that it's there for us and we. We will also have the newer head units, at the base we will have the 6.5-inch StarLink touchscreen infotainment system that will come with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, much better than the smaller outgoing 6.5, no more small but works slower. screen we were looking at like an 18 WRX for example, you'll also get automatic climate control here and this obviously comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive and being a Forester it has 8.7 inches of ground clearance so Let's take a quick look inside, so now we're sitting inside the Forester 2.5 i and one of the other things that I didn't mention yet that is new and standard on all Foresters will be the inclusion of the SI unit.
2019 subaru forester trim levels explained
So we have seen that previously in the automatic WRX it is more famous in the STI the turbo

forester

and its different driving modes that basically adjust the correct response, so no, we do not have a turbo, but we do have SI unit that gives us the ability. to put it in sport mode, which will increase our throttle response, you know you'll see the tachometer go up to a higher rpm before going out, which really makes it nice for getting on the highway, going up the mountain and stuff or just passing someone on the road just gives you a little more pep in your step.
You wouldn't know, it doesn't feel like a turbo, it's not like it will throw you into the back of your seat, but there is definitely a noticeable difference, which is certainly something that is very welcome given that we don't have a turbo option. Now this is the 6.5-inch screen we've had here. We also have an 8-inch screen, although it is not available in this equipment level. but it will come standard with apps like android auto apple carplay, meaning you can access navigation right here on your screen. You can also use Google Voice on Siri to send text messages.
Enter an address for navigation. Make phone calls. Play your music. from your phone, things of that nature, it's definitely a much faster operating system than it used to be previously. We'll also look at the standard Sirius XM radio, which will come with that ride link to give you gas weather prices, stocks and sports scores. Now if we look down here, we don't have the I have the manual and other than that, there isn't a ton of crazy stuff. I mean, this definitely looks more like the other global platform cars if you've been on a rise, especially this one has a very similar vibe, the cars are becoming more and more similar.
They are being added to the global platform in terms of interior finishing and now this will be the base fabric that we have here, it's kind of a two tone color and we definitely have much more prominent stitching patterns here which gives it a nice and elegant feel. , we have slightly soft touch surfaces here, we don't have the extended armrests, you know, they were here, which is nice, the one that slides forward, but overall it's a very, very comfortable place to be and this is a great car for tall and short drivers, there is a great level of adjustability in terms of raising the seat height and visibility both to the sides and the front is very, very good in this vehicle.
Now this will be 2.5. The Premium trim level is a step above the base and this is really where the trim level that we were able to customize a little bit has four different option packages that you can get that I'll get into in a second, this one in particular. being a 13 option package, so we'll go over those option packages there, but a couple of things you can spot on a premium right off the bat on the outside, you'll still have a very similar front end, you'll still have the LED automatic headlights here, but The wheel design, despite being a 17-inch alloy wheel, has a different wheel design than the base one.
Now we'll also see the colored exterior mirrors here, so it won't just be black plastic, whatever the body color will be up here, now there will be black at the bottom so you're aware of that, which could be a little difficult to see with this color, but if it were blue, for example, you know you notice the separation. Now you will also get the roof rails which will be steel on the premium model, you will get a sunroof which is an amazing panoramic sunroof and you will also get the privacy glass in the rear here so that the front windows The rear windows are not tinted , but the good thing is that it is very common for people to do what is called a combination of tint or they will just tint the front ones to match the rear ones, obviously it is much less expensive than tinting all the windows, which is nice of that way in terms of other exterior things that are different, you'll get a spoiler starting on the premium that will go all the way up to all the different trim levels and all the way to the end with that rear spoiler, you've got a little bit more rounding on the exterior now in terms of One of the features I didn't mention that all Foresters have, though is the auto start/stop feature, is new for 2019 on the Forester, this is the first vehicle we've seen that actually has it.
I had some mixed reviews some people like it some don't. One thing is that you need to turn it off every time, but I've seen drastically different fuel savings from customer to customer that I've seen when I've seen, you know how far they've driven versus how much they've saved, people who are doing a lot more traffic. intense and all that obviously you will see a lot more fuel and emissions savings, obviously there are also a couple of other things in In the premium version, we will have the same six-point-five-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which will come as standard and the things that come standard in the optional package 11, which would be the basic premium, will be all the exterior things that we just talked about.
We'll still have the 6.5-inch touchscreen automatic climate control, the same one that's in the base, but you'll get ex mode in this vehicle. An ex mode is our off-road mode, so it will be used for going up or down hills. Rocky roads, bumpy roads, icy roads, things of that nature, so they are used for very slow speeds, below 18 miles per hour, and there is a throttle control management property that helps prevent skidding and sends power to the wheels for better traction. It also has a feature called hill descent control. or it will actually use stability and traction control to brake for you while going downhill.
It's amazing to present its strange configuration. We'll take a look inside. It is the only Forester to have its configuration this way. Most of those who have. The ex mode has a snow and dirt mode which is basically a normal ex mode and then they have a deep snow and mud mode which we will see on the higher trims which is basically an ex mode with the traction control disabled. This one decided to somehow for some reason pressed to activate ex mode and turned counterclockwise to do traction control. I don't know why they wouldn't keep it similar across all trim levels.
I don't know, but all the premium trim levels are They will have the ex mode feature, they will also have the Star Link security system, which is our telematics system, so it will be the blue eye button, which is for the edges of the roads, and it will tell them exactly where you are in the SOS red. The button calls a different call center which has the ability to send police fire, it corrupts anyone's stuff like that, if you are in a car accident or you know you are watching someone to rob a bank or you are having a heart attack, something like that.
It's definitely a nice safety feature, something I really wish was even on the base model since it already has sight. No, why not? Other things you will get in the rear, you will get a center armrest with two cup holders, the seats in the rear will also recline in the premium trim levels, so in terms of exterior features, that's it, but let's take a quick look inside to see what's different on the premium versus the 2.5. Well, this is inside the 2.5 I premium and this ride, this one in particular, is option package 13, so when I was talking about option package 11, that's all that's standard on a premium trim level, now the Option Package 13 is a much more popular trim level and basically everything looks the same. however, you will get the all weather package which will give you these heated seats here and it will also give you when you press this button it will heat these side mirrors, the rear defogger and also the base of the front windshield.
So technically the all-weather package isn't a standard feature, but at least in the cold states where I've always lived, almost all premiums asked for will beoption package 13 at least. Now I talked about other things. About, you'll get the same six point five inch screen here so it's pretty much the same as the base, you still get the automatic climate control and everything here will be the same as the view is standard so there's really no change . they are automatic headlights this is going to be pretty much the same now this is the StarLink safety system that I mentioned to the blue eye button like I said for SOS on the road for more emergency situations and it will actually be free for three years onwards the Forester , so all the cars that are on the global platform, Lee sent the Crosstrek, the Impreza, they will all receive the star link for free for up to three years, which is pretty good, it used to be just one year and I still am. back and legacies now we don't have the paddle shifters on this and we're at the base so we just have the low gear here and like I said we have the reclining rear seats and also the cup holder in the back and everything there is now they call it premium fabric.
I don't tend to notice much difference here, honestly, between the base and the premium. I think it's just because it's a premium trim level, they call it that, but the biggest one. What here is the standard sunroof on all premium

forester

s I love is that it opens completely which is really nice and a couple of other options that you can get on this premium trim level would be option package 14 which en It will give you the all weather package, but it will also give you blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and also keyless entry and push to start and then if you go for option package 15, it will give you all that more. the automatic rear liftgate, so this one does not have a liftgate, but it is an option in a 15 premium option package.
All premium Foresters also come with a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat. Now this is the all-new 2019 Forester Sport, which is a new trim level for 2019 and it really sits between a premium trim level and a limited one in terms of features and amenities, now in terms of its overall styling, a very much sportier, very limited in terms of actual performance upgrades, it has a sport suspension, it also has a better SI transmission system, so it has a little better throttle response than sport, but other than that, mostly , you know, they will be cosmetic style cues that will give you the sporty style. mention now a couple of things that would come standard, three option packages with a forester sport, you have option package 21 22 and 24 21 will just give you everything that comes standard on a forester sport, so a couple of those things will be the 18-inch black alloy wheels you see here, a specific design only found on the Forester sport.
You're also going to get the turn signals here on these side mirrors and we're also going to get some stylistic cues here with these accents that are Both, you know, they're like an orange-red color, so we're going to see that here we're going to see a little bit on the back and also on the all over the interior, which really gives it a nice high contrast and sporty look. Other things we'll look at here that are standard on all sporty Foresters, we'll look at these nice LED fog lights that we see here. I actually love this design a lot more than even the circular ones we'll see. on Unlimited on the Touring versions and we'll also have this nice kind of black front grille instead of being chrome colored, everything is blacked out, it's definitely going to have a much sportier look, now similar features here with the tint you know. the rear is the same on the premium, everything from the premium to will have that and we still have the spoiler here, although it's a different spoiler on the sport, it just has a little bit more black here to give it that high contrast again and we We'll also see black on the rear here instead of body color or chrome, like we see on the Touring level, now the other thing that will come standard on a Forest or Sport, you'll get both types, you know. mode function we have deep snow and mud and snow and dirt mode so you only have two different modes, easy and fast, snow and dirt are just the normal X mode so you know the dry conditions going up a trail until a cabin or something and deep snow and mud is the normal X mode with traction control, they are disabled to allow the wheels to spin to get out of difficult situations if you are in deep snow.
Now all Forester sports will also come with paddle shifters, which is really good, it definitely gives you more control, especially when coming down from the mountains or something, and a couple of the different option packages that you can get here, so 22, which is what gives you some upgrades on the interior, now we'll look at the blind spot. Detecting this as an option 22 will see rear cross traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, and in addition to the eight-inch StarLink touchscreen infotainment system, now the 8-inch screen is a big improvement we'll see when you come in, but I love it because it has Wi-Fi, which means you can connect to your home Wi-Fi and perform software updates for your infotainment system just by walking into your garage, which is very convenient in instead of having to do it with the USB.
Entry there now I mentioned keyless entry and push to start is standard, but that's what comes with option package 22, rear cross traffic alert, everything now option package 24 gives you all that , plus you will get Harman Kardon premium. sound system and also a power tailgate, now let's take a look inside and see the amazing styling cues of the Forester Sport, so we're inside the Forester Sport, as you can see, that kind of sporty red-orange color is everything. Throughout the interior we are seeing this, unlike the plastic lining here on the vents, we see it in the seams everywhere, so it really ties the interior together.
I think I really quite like it and you're also going to get this nice two tone color here on the inside. All sporty Foresters will have this seat you see here with a lighter gray inside. I don't think this is real leather on the outside. but and then the seams here are also orange, so I definitely quite liked that this is the X mode. I was talking about the dual X mode here, where you just turn it counterclockwise for the normal X mode if you're in light snow or I mean, I don't really like it when they call, no wonder because it makes people think, oh, there's an inch of snow on the ground, you know, our next mode is for very slow speeds, is it for eighteen ? miles per hour, so I'll mainly be using this for climbing dirt roads and trails and filling in deep snow and mud, although it's much easier now than having to be like the yaw traction control in x mode, like I used to have to do in the woods or So they've definitely made it a little bit easier and then you just press it and it goes back to normal driving mode.
We see the different SI Drive that we have here with Sport Sharp, which will definitely give you a little bit of that better acceleration there compared to the normal sport on the other foresters and with the paddle shifters here definitely a lot more control with that sporty feel of a vehicle that has those paddle shifters we see different climate controls set up here it just has you regular I know the automatic climate control but it's a different setup that's how it used to be actually in the forest eighteen they have a different layout on the premium and basic models, but I like this, I think it's a little cleaner, it's not like a dial where you have to align the fan speed and align the mode to be on auto.
This is much cleaner, much easier, although the most important thing is the addition of the eight-inch touchscreen here, as well as the 6.3-inch 6.2-inch screen up there. much, much easier to use. I think it's faster and, like I said, it has Wi-Fi in there, so you'll also have the ability, like I said, with Apple Carplay, Android Auto. I really like the bigger screen, the 6.5, you know. a big step up from the previous smaller screen they used to have, but it's nothing compared to this one. I like it much more. You'll also have the screen up here, where you can control this information button on the steering wheel. it just gives you a bunch of extra options, like you can see the miles to empty, you can see the oil temperature, you can see if what's on the radio, all kinds of things up there, it's just something nice that makes you feel like if you were sitting in the car with a lot of technology which I like for the most part, other than that a lot of very similar features to the premium, just a different style with the seats and the stitching and things like that.
Now this is the 2.5 I limited. The trim level is second from the top here and I always like to remember the limited leather because this will be the first trim level to include leather in the equation for the seating surfaces. Now, a couple more things you'll get. On this you'll get standard 18 inch alloy wheels that you see here, we still have the body color side mirrors and the turn signals are standard like on the sports car and then as we go down here we'll get this. It's where we start to get a little bit of chrome II, as I say, so you're going to have the chrome here that you have under the fog lights that are standard.
You will also have a bonza steering of LED headlights that are standard on the limited model. level so you can see if you remember which is the stand we're showing definitely a more chrome here, without trying to achieve that high contrast sporty look in terms of on the outside it's not much different here on the limited model that I don't I don't have the chrome on the bottom like we have on the Touring, but we still have the fender here, it's a little less black like we saw on the Sport, there's more body color now in terms of other things that will come standard.
In Sport, we'll get the larger eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard, you'll get blind spot or cross-traffic alert as standard, and you'll also get keyless entry and push-to-start standard. It's going to have the same From the cabin now there are a couple more options that you have, this is option package 31. If you were to go for a more upgraded version for option package 32, you would get everything I just mentioned there, but you also get the premium sound, then you will get the Harmon carbon premium sound system, you will also get reverse automatic braking as well as the built-in navigation that is from TomTom today.
I mean, it's nice to have that navigation, but we find a lot of our customers are actually using Apple Carplay Android Auto to use other ways or Google Maps, so most people go that way, but it's a good option. backup if you use it, you know, for example, you don't have unlimited data, it's a It's a great feature, but let's take a look at the interior now in terms of the interior, obviously with the trim and everything, it's a little bit different than the sporty, but As for the features and amenities here, they are very similar to what we just looked at. so here the same screen of the infotainment system, all of this is going to be the same.
Actually, I apologize if I said this was an option package 31, this is an option package 32, since I have the built-in navigation that you see here and we do. I have that premium Harman Kardon sound system, so I have a couple of other things that come standard. You have a heated steering wheel, which, oh my goodness, thank goodness, today I didn't think I was going to need gloves that turned out to be incorrect. You'll get the standard heated steering wheel on all Limiteds, as well as the automatic tailgate, and now this doesn't have paddle shifters, so we'll look at a low gear option down here that will basically put the car in the lowest gear option possible and given its speed, but we have a nice little leather, you know, surface down here, much softer surfaces to the touch, this is all leather instead of that clot that we saw on the other trims. full leather seating surfaces and there are a couple of different color options this is the lighter gray option with two tone but some of the trims will give you black leather like now some of the colors will give you black leather as an option there As for the dual zone climate control, as I mentioned, it's nice to be able to have the ability to know that there's a temperature on that different side, you know, a different temperature on this one, that people can't really agree on. what they want there, but everything else up there.
Here, the sight, the blind spot, everything we have seen in theForester Sport, this focuses a little bit more on the luxury element and a lot less on the sporty element that these sports were looking at, so there's definitely still a level above this. which comes standard with all the shipoopi and that will be the Touring trim level, so let's take a look at that now, this is the absolutely top of the line Touring trim level for the 2019 Forester and it has everything possible that you can. that I have in a Subaru Forester plus some things that are not included in other trim levels or even optional, so some things that we will see here on the outside we can definitely spot a Touring more easily than any other trim level simply because of all the The chrome that it has, so you have these nice satin chrome side mirrors up here, regardless of the color, but we'll see the chrome here as well on the door handles and on the bottom.
I'm not a big chrome person, but I think in this black it actually works quite well. Now we will also see these 18-inch alloy wheels that you see here and we will have the LED headlights that respond to the steering and we will also have the fog lights. Down there you can also see the chrome that comes from the limited trim level that we just looked at, so this will have everything, it will have leather seats, it even has the brown leather seat option, you can get a touring with black. leather, but it will come with the biggest infotainment system, it will have the built-in system to catch reverse, automatic braking, rear liftgate, everything you can have, keyless entry memory seats are also a option, are also standard on this one, as is heating. steering wheel, so like most trim levels we have the 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, but for the first time in a Forester we're seeing an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat, which is a very nice addition. appreciated.
It was a little crazy, you know, last year you would have this like $38,000. Forester and then it had a manual passenger seat, it seemed out of place but they definitely did a great job with this, the interior is immaculately beautiful, you will also get heated seats in the rear in this trim level which is awesome. There's definitely a lot of stuff that isn't even available on other trim levels, although the highlight of this is on the interior, so let's take a look so you guys can see the interior and this is my absolute favorite. I'm a big fan of brown leather, anything brown leather.
British Racing Green is absolutely my GM, so I love the details here, even the leather on the interior, this nice satin chrome that we saw in those rearview mirrors, it definitely makes a nice contrast, but in a much more luxurious way than the black and white contrast that we're seeing in the sport, so this one has a very similar steering wheel to the others, for some reason I feel like I'm talking about the limit, it has a leather-wrapped one. Any reason to feel this is better, probably no difference but I like it, maybe I'm just surrounded by all the other cool stuff in it so maybe it's messing with my head a little but the heated steering wheel is very welcome. -At that same time, also in this one we will have the paddle shifters that we saw in the sports, so the Limited does not have them, it is only the sport and the Touring that have the manual mode with the paddle shifters now the most important.
What comes on this trim level, which isn't even optional on the others, is the driver focus driver distraction mitigation system, so you can actually have facial recognition properties using this infrared camera up here and you can recognize a driver and basically adjust their seating preferences as well as their side mirrors, so the mirrors now on the sides, at least not this one, but the mirrors on the sides are actually linked to the driver's profile, which It's super awesome, so when you come in, you'll really have the ability to do it. Say hello Brendan and we'll move the seat exactly where you want it.
It will show your cool little icon. If you want more information on that feature, we made a whole video on exactly how to set that up and everything, and that too. It's going to monitor to make sure you're paying attention and keeping your eyes on the ceiling. If you really know you're looking away for too long, he'll start beeping at you and say, "Keep your eyes on the road, so we'll do it." They have, like I said, although they have climate control, we have two built-in navigation, the premium sound. I mean, there's really nothing you can add to this except that you know bars or you know a bike rack or something.
I mean this. short the touring has no other option packages only touring you choose your color, your interior color and that's it, so this one has the same x-mode system that we are seeing in the limited sport model, so it has the snow and dirt, snow deep and muddy there, we're also in the back here we've got the nice satin chrome finished piano key on those cup holders just great attention to detail on this car, this one definitely goes above and beyond and we've got the heated seats in the back , which is also the first to have a USB output, so a couple of other trim levels have those USBs, but they don't have those heated seats back there, which is super nice, we've seen it on the Outbacks in the Higher equipment levels were never on a Forester before, so I definitely, you know, I used to say the Forester was definitely sportier, the Outback was more luxurious, and I still think that's true in some cases.
In a sense, I think they could probably use some wood grain trim here, but they're definitely closing that gap with this touring Forester, you know, it's on par with a Touring Outback, so this one is definitely my favorite. I love everyone. good things in this car great fuel economy great safety great sound system I mean you couldn't ask for more thank you all so much for watching I hope you liked what you saw today and found this video helpful for more helpful videos like this. be sure to subscribe to our channel and check out our current inventory, visit us at Group C root communication.
