2017 Lincoln Continental Review - A Half Priced Maybach?

Jun 01, 2021
Since the Lincoln Continental became extinct in 2002, Lincoln has not had a flagship of any kind, and in fact, overall perception of the brand has not been the best. Now, the introduction of the Lincoln MKZ was a step in the right direction, but to really increase your brand's reputation, you need to show the world what you are capable of creating in the form of a flagship. That's where the new Lincoln Continental comes into play now, in spring 2015. Lincoln dropped the bomb on everyone showing off the Continental concept at the New York Auto Show with looks that could take down a Bentley Flying Spur, A beautiful stately looking paint job and huge wheels, the Continental seemed to be a promising step in the right direction for Lincoln, unfortunately ergonomics tweaked some of the designs to make it viable for sale.

In the US markets, the trunk had a beautiful design in concept that was actually completely impractical because to put things in the trunk you had to lift it extremely high, the door handles had to be adjusted a bit, and some of the design was changed, of course we don't have that beautiful two-tone blue paint available, although it is a gorgeous car now, the base Continental starts at $44,500, a good deal for what you get, however it is the best trim line Black Label with a series of improvements that bring the total price to $78,000. The new Focus from the Lincoln brand for the Continental is a quiet luxury in its words, it is a combination of serenity, elegance and power.

More Interesting Facts About,

Now, in terms of elegance, the design is definitely beautiful and there are some innovations. That makes the design look different than most other vehicles on the road, because of one of the door handles that are actually built into the chrome window trim and not the bottom of the door, as would normally be expected, now that was an engineering nightmare and I. I'm sure the QA people were tearing their hair out, but they did a pretty good job. In fact, you can open the door in One Sweep simply by clicking the button inside the latch, although we have another one inside. button to open and it's in an awkward place when you press it and try to open the door, you can't push the door with your hand because it's too close to the actual hinge, you get no leverage, you have to push the door. open door with your elbow, which takes some getting used to.

We also have beautiful HID headlights. They have five different lenses on each side. It reminds me a bit of the Bugatti Chiron, although this one of course came out first, even though it looks expensive. Lincoln also introduces its now signature star-shaped mesh grille. It's big, it's imposing, it looks elegant and it really finishes off the Continental's beautiful front design. This is a very good looking vehicle. It looks great from the angled front, from the side to the rear, they absolutely knocked it out of the park. the park with the design, so what about the power? Well there are three engine options, we have a 3.7L naturally aspirated V6 and then there are two turbo options, a 2.7L twin-turbo V6 and a 3.0.

Now this is the 3.0L biturbo engine, the top one. off the line makes 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, which is a lot even for a car that weighs 4,600 pounds paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that doesn't shift as quickly as it should. It's good that you can do it. 60mph in 5.5 seconds there are steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, but they are incredibly flimsy and made of very cheap plastic. I feel like if I push them too hard I could break them off the steering wheel in terms of responsiveness even when you put them on. the transmission in sport mode often denies shifting and takes a long time to respond to your inputs, as if they want you to get rid of them all together or put in a different transmission, maybe the 10-speed like in the Ford Raptor until Development Learnings of the Focus RS.
It has a complex all-wheel drive system. In fact, it's capable of sending 100% of torque to just one wheel at a time to get you out of sticky situations and help you feel that little bit more. Confidence on the road in inclement weather and the interior design is equally impressive. Get these 30-way adjustable power seats. They are an option now, but I have never experienced a seat that can conform to your body and be customizable in this way. We have an almost ridiculous amount of buttons on the door here to control the seat, of course we have heated seats, they are also ventilated and we will talk about the rear, there are also heated and ventilated seats back there, let's click on the plus button here. so that all the adjustable functions appear on the Infot M screen, we can go from individual thigh supports, the left one can be moved individually from the right to individually customize the lower back versus the upper back, the bolsters lumbar, it's really amazing. how much control you have and in fact I'm going to do a video dedicated to some of the unique features of the Lincoln Continental because it has some things that not many other cars have.
We also have a 19-speaker 19 Rebel. Audio system that sounds great, I tried it with royalty-free music. Like, what's going on in the back? So we have a $4,300 rear seat package that comes with four-way power adjustable rear seats, they can recline, you can even get a massage, and they're heated and cooled. It's an absolutely serene experience from the back seat. Plus when you lower the center console you have access to climate control, Sync 3, radio, anything you want, you can even control the passenger seat from the right rear seat. Back there to have a little more leg room if you are chauffeured in black glabel cars, there are three different themes that remind me of and are perhaps inspired a bit by the different inspired collections that Rolls-Royce has, this is the pure blood.
In theme we have jet black leather and Chestnut upholstery, then there is the Chalet, which is based on the ski slopes of the Alps. What I like the most is the interior, it's this nice creamy white color and then we have CID raps, as well as from a technological point of view, the Continental. It's also loaded, we have a 360° surround view camera that makes parking easier. Auto dimming rearview mirror, pre-collision assist, the car can drive itself within the lanes, it even has remote start because it is an American car, something you can't really use on European cars due to emissions regulations and there's even a find my car feature in case you lose it in a parking lot.
What is it really like to drive well? One complaint I have is that the steering wheel is too small and wrapped up. in nice leather, although it is wrinkled in many different ways where the seams are, it is not as comfortable to the touch as many other vehicles, however, it is very quiet here, the steering is nice and light, it rides well over bumps, but not It's so comfortable. like something like a ct6 or a g90, probably their two main competitors overall, although it is a relaxing experience. I imagine if you spend $4,300 on the rear seat package you'll probably want to spend most of your time reclining back there, but if you're driving it it's not bad, I have some issues with the build quality of course it looks very good, but when you start touching certain areas it doesn't feel as good as it looks, for example for the climate control, this switch here for the fan speed feels incredibly cheap, I mean it's not even worthy of being in a $10,000 car, let alone something that costs almost $80,000.
We have interesting controls that work quite well for the heated and cooled seats, as well as the climate control. I really don't like the location of the volume knob on the steering wheel, which isn't a knob, it's actually a switch, but other than that, these seats are so comfortable that you have great visibility, tons of room inside and I think they did a fantastic job. I work with the Lincoln Continental considering they haven't built a car like this for 14 or 15 years, they did a very very good job, there are some things they can improve of course and I'm sure the next generation of Continental will have those things, but overall, good job, Lincoln.
