20 of the BEST DOLLAR TREE DIY home decor ideas to try in 2022!Dec 18, 2021
hi it's megan welcome back to another
dollarstore video this time i'm sharing my
besttop 20 this year what makes it the
bestfor me it's a diy that doesn't look like a diy i can display it proudly in my
homeand it doesn't look cheap and with all that being said we're starting right now this first DIY is really cool because it's a technique that can be used in many other DIY's from junk to treasure to revamping an old vase with lamp. have on hand you want to give it a makeover all you need is some putty from
treeor dollar general they both carry it for about a buck and just wipe that all over the plant base container lamp , whatever you're doing, then snatch some dollar
treesand sprinkle all over your planter we're making a planter someone refers to it as a planter and you just slide it back and forth after it dries you can paint it the color of your toys i always prefer to spray paint but you can definitely hand paint if you prefer hand painting and you could stop completely right there go no further it looks great painted as does the texture alone it looks awesome but if you want to level it up or make it match the stone you have outside or make it look more like an aged stone statue look almost thats what reminds me you can use two or three colors ac caulking with a sponge all over the pot and this really really shows the texture i love the way it turned out not just the pot the technique itself is great there are so many things you could do with this and the cool thing is that this caulk exterior interior you can put it outside and it holds up well and we're on to the next one where all you need to do is grab two of the same bowls they don't have to be the same color just the same style from dollar tree or walmart walmart is probably cheaper but you know if it's more near go to dollar tree no big deal go to dollar tree you can snatch them there glue your bowls to together using a permanent or strong glue.
I used super glue gel and then you can hand or spray paint the bowls the color of your choice. Take some wicks. The dollar tree sells a candle making kit, but I like to buy my wicks from michaels. I'll use a coupon and get six wicks for two bucks, then I'll gather all of your nearly burnt out candles and melt them on medium low heat for about 35-45 minutes, after that all you have to do is pour the wax. in your candle and that's easy peasy lemon squeezy you have a really nice candle now when i originally made these i tried putting some lemon eucalyptus incense in there because i heard it would repel bugs i really didn't see the difference it made they are outside but either way i love these candles they smell amazing and the nice thing is after they are done you can clean them and then reuse them so i made them for fall just painting the tops brown and orange then using some sp textured ray paint from rust-oleum also looked great so the best thing about this diy is that it's customizable you can use it year round refinish it and it's super inexpensive and it's a great way to use up your nearly burned out candles for number three all you need is three or four of these larger dollar tree signs now if you couldn't find them on the dollar tree don't worry my friend
homedepot all you all you have to do is go there take an eight foot long strip for less than two bucks to get them to cut it down that's actually cheaper especially now that the dollar tree has increased their prices so either may be using Home Depot lumber or some dollar tree signs, use super glue gel or wood glue to join all four boards together now I went a step further because I'm using this as a real work tray and used a staple gun to join my boards together but that's really not necessary because wood glue and super glue gel have a stronger hold but like I said I wanted to use this as a work tray like pick it up move it so that's which i did, then you can paint it any color of your choice, i used rust-oleum relic white, it's one of the spray paint colors i always keep on hand, but again you can always hand paint this the same way, then you just need some of the dollar trees with a faux leather ribbon and some pins.
I just pulled these off my cork board but I'm 99 sure I actually bought these from the dollar tree and you. I can push it to the side of the dash. I could probably push it all the way in with my finger if I tried, but it was easier to take a hammer and just hammer it in and that's it. We got a nice little work tray. I ended up putting a cork board on the bottom of mine. I originally had this outside, but shortly after doing so, I moved it into the living room because it's the perfect size for the end table where we can put our remotes and coasters. well this is a great DIY for me because it doesn't look like a DIY it doesn't look like a dollar tree and whether you use the real wood from Home Depot or these larger chunky dollar tree signs it will it's going to look great and we're on to the next one you just need two plastic dollar tree buckets that are the same size tape those bad boys together and then we've got a few options my friend so a really cool way to end this is just snatching polyrope from a summer dollar tree you get 50 feet for a dollar which is a very good deal now their real nautical rope has been taken off them for the amount they have been selling for a dollar for a long time and even before I didn't think it was a great deal anymore so I'm going to have two string stores I've bought on Amazon in the past linked in the description now these places change their prices but they don't always go up they go up they go down so if the first one is not the same as what i showed on the screen try the next one or wait a few days seriously they change every day then all you have to do is wrap your two containers with string and call it a day and that's it get yourself a nice little stool this would look great indoors or out use it as a plant stand to put your lemonade on when you're outside just relaxing by the fire during the summer and I have a mod for this DIY like this which if you're going to put this outside and keep it outside like I did about a month later it started to lift on top and I've never had that happen to me before with hot glue but to fix this I just went back with some caulk and the I applied under the rope that pushed down and then it's been great ever since so if I were to redo this DIY I'd probably from scratch add caulk and glue ent hot to make it last longer, so here it is two days, you know, nine months later, it's getting stronger, it's faded a little bit, but it's been outside the whole time.
I love how it turned out. to be a great way to revamp any old buckets you have lying around the house or old pots too you don't need to go to dollar tree for anything new and we're at number five where all you need to do is grab a container of smaller glass from dollar tree or anywhere and then one of the garden plates from dollar tree use hot glue and super glue gel or some kind of permanent strength glue to attach the two bowls together and then you can spray paint or hand paint it the color of your choice now if it is going to be used as a chalk paint that you are going to paint by hand I would suggest using mod podge to paint it first to help your paint stay put and stick longer or mod podge over it to seal in the color of paint of your choice and that's this is great just for
decoration but the way we use it is we use it for oranges or bananas on the kitchen counter now number five matches perfect mind with this diy all you need are some unbreakable ornaments no longer using dollar tree sells these but i think most of us probably ly have some sort of ornament or toy ball that we are not using all you have to do is glue heat some dollar tree potpourri all over your
decorative balls now depending on what color your balls are you may have to paint the balls first so it doesn't have like green gold glittery yellow silver that sparkles but it's super simple to make and this is such an easy DIY and makes a really nice decor piece now note any balls you hot glue the potpourri onto to almost double in size so this makes really nice sized decorative balls but you can do many other things with the decorations, for example, I think it would be great to do what the latina next door did by simply wrapping some balls in a string rda because it looks really cool but i also want to clear something up so in a previous video i mentioned hey this diy is inspired by the latina next door and a lot of people in the comments i was talking about my next door neighbor no, it's actually a youtube channel it's my girl yami and actually s he's uploading like 21 of his best diys today too so i'll have his channel linked in the description definitely check it out if you haven't already for the Number seven, you only need three or four packs of Dollar Tree's value-sized spinning tower set right now, even after Dollar Tree changes their prices to 125.
I still think they're a great deal. In fact, I had to place an order. I had a project in mind and had to order a box of the Value Pack, so I paid for shipping. I had to have it shipped to my house and I ended up paying like a buck fifty a box and I still think it's a great deal now optional you can stain your blocks with coffee I love coffee stain I like the way it looks and also coffee stained half the batch two times so we can get more dimension and contrast then you just need some wood glue and some kind of plank of wood now the dollar tree sells planks of wood so you can totally use it but i only get free wood from the facebook market is really easy to do i wish i knew about this sooner and all you have to do is take your wood glue and glue your jingle blocks to your piece of wood as these are real wood blocks give it that time to set dry completely and then your pieces of wood won't totally match 100 so up close you'll see what it looks like ok it's such an easy fix all you have to do is take a little bit or more of wood glue, put it in the cracks, lightly rub it into the cracks like a damp paper towel then go back and lightly sand the sanding down. uh i guess the dust becomes almost like wood filler the same stain as the blocks and you can't even tell you can't see the cracks are gone and it works so well i got these handles from the habitat for restoration of humanity. but chuck dollar tree will have handles at clearance or garage sales, i mean people will also throw away dressers with handles all the time and this is a tray that really works.
I love how it looks. This is such a cool tray that I ended up sealing it. with just a bit of clear spray paint it kept it out of a d this thing is amazing going strong one of my all time favorite diys for the number eight all it needs is a thicker frame of a dollar tree or a thrift store really any frame that has a deeper back remove the backing then hot glue the glass in place then you just need some pressed flowers press dried flowers if you don't have any you can go for a walk pick some flowers, put some paper towels in a book, wait about two weeks and you have some yourself. pressed flowers that's what I did this is a great way to preserve the flowers you have from a wedding or funeral and then all you have to do is just glue the flowers in place and if you have little petals like me. you can use some spray adhesive, just spray it lightly and when it dries it dries enough that you can't really see it, especially once we put the second frame on top. of the dollar tree and that's about it so the actually are from my father who passed away earlier this year and I think it's a really nice way to preserve the flowers a little bit longer and they really do look the same the day we I did this so they are getting stronger. it has held up great for about five months and for number nine all you need is two dollar tree mats no matter the style or even if they go with duct tape and then use something like i used a dollar tree hula hoop but you can use a big trash can or you can just draw it freehand and trace a half circle cut from one side down so i found it easier instead of just trying to cut exactly i even flipped it over and then mocked that up in the opposite side.
On the other hand, all you have to do is simply snatch two or three bundles of nautical ivory rope from a dollar tree and thisrope is really thick. you are going to have a single strand and then the two stra The nds can be easily retwisted to make one rope look like another rope so you are going to take your two strands we just twisted them together with hot glue I was able to go two times, almost twice and then with your single thread you're going to cut it as many times as you want and tie it into little ghost heads you can choose the bottom strings at the bottom it looks like a tassel it's a very easy way to make a tassel and then you can hot glue it to the side of your rug.
I just use some fishing line and a larger tapestry needle to attach this to my rug. It didn't take long and then you have a few options my friend. I already mentioned how Dollar Tree has really been like jacking up the rope prices. Here's another rope shop and this time it's 10.95 for just 200 feet which is a great deal so if you're going to make this 100 dollar tree that's ok prerogative your DIYer would need about 15 to 17 bundles of rope depending on the length of rope you have then all you have to do is keep a wrap, coil and switch from white to nautical rope as many times as you want and I'm not cutting at the bottom every time I I double over and if I have to cut I just tie that so it stays in place and so on for ten bucks and we're like 11.
I still have a lot of rope left over from the Amazon store so for a total of what I used let's go ahead and let's say the full ten bucks and for fifteen bucks I have a very nice rug just the way I love it. the way it turned out i have it in my kitchen you could definitely use this outside too but this is the perfect rug i need it for my kitchen and then i went back and hot glued a non slip mat to the bottom and it stays in place nicely for the Next you just need a hanging wire garden basket and a little more layer of poly rope, poly rope comes in black and white, white poly rope comes when 25ft but is much thicker than rope dollar tree black polythene I originally spray painted the wire basket white totally unnecessary didn't realize that until after it's done because we're winding the rope between each of the wire basket bars by the time Finished rolling up and down, you can't see anything on the wire basket except the bottom hole, you can see the very bottom ring where there is a hole or and I don't think that matters much at the top, I just wrapped it up without any special technique and then used some leftover rope I got from an old DIY instead of the garden chains that came with this basket to hang my plant pot and Now Dollar Tree sold dollar plant liners which is a great deal.
I didn't even see them until last year. I wish I had stocked up over the summer when I was still a dollar. but hey i think a buck 25 would probably still be a good deal unless anyone knows of a better deal let me know but here is my elephant bush it looks great and if you're wondering this is what it looks like the pot today, so December. Planter 2021 pretty much yeah it still looks the same as the white polyrope it doesn't fade the other ropes faded a bit but that's not a big deal walmart sells penny trash cans the dollar tree too it's about the same size, either of these will work for this DIY, the wastebasket I'm using.
It's actually from dollar tree but it's going to be really tatty and tattered it looks like it's a DIY I did a few years ago so I'll take it apart and reuse the bin and actually the brown nautical rope is the rope I just made wear. ultimate diy to hang that bad boy anyway all you need is a bigger bowl and you can get these from the dollar tree the same way and you are going to make drainage holes because now we are making a planter if not you make a string fan so hey this diy is for you we are not using string in this diy my friend so all you have to do is hot glue the bowl and pot together and we will make a pot so I'm going to refer to this as a flowerpot from now on, so we're going to use our caulk and sand trick again, but it's going to have a little twist and I think it's a really cool diy.
I was able to see how well this technique works and how it really covers any type of blemish, but two gave me a chance. to experiment with different colors and textures of this so sand in the caulk just like we did in the first DIY and just don't forget to poke out the weep holes then you can paint it any color of your choice and originally I thought I wanted that It was matte black but I wasn't really digging the way it looked when I finished it so I went back with some hammered copper spray paint and dusted it a little now I told you guys I spray painted it black first and then i went back and spray painted it copper next because if you want the exact same look you will need to spray paint it black and then copper and then i also made a smaller pot using a walmart 50 cent bowl and a 50 cent cup all the steps were the same the only difference As it is the plastic was very thick so I had to use a drill to drill the drain holes in the cup and bowl, everything else being the same.
I did the sand and caulk technique, painted black, painted gold and that was it. I'm really in love I know I say that all the time about all my DIYs but I really loved these because I was really impressed with the technique and how this transformed the pots especially the larger pot because I didn't pick any of that string that still stuck in hot glue like the rope buzz and the hot glue that was left on the pot before I applied the caulk and sand and that really covered that up and if you're wondering what they look like today they look exactly the same as I said the paint rust-oleum spray is great the exterior interior caulking is interior and exterior too same for number 12 this is so simple and easy maybe one of the easiest diys just need a dollar tree walmart bubble vase or general buck They all sell them and some 3d pop up stickers stick them all over the face and to give it a really cool look to make them in pairs you can get a bubble base from smaller size and these smaller size decals and then just spray paint them now I use these same ones.
I pretty much use the same five paint colors. I keep them on hand, but as always you can of course you can spray paint them. I love the hammered metal look though because of the way the paint dries. to give it that hammered metal look so when this candle is lit at night it looks so cool. I love the way these two candles look. make all the smaller stickers on both bubble bases and now here's a quick and easy DIY that looks so fancy it doesn't look like a dollar tree at all you just need two or three of these little little wooden boxes and then a little scrap wood or if you are lucky enough to find wood in your dollar tree use that the same way or another idea would be you can go to Home Depot Lowe's they will sell scrap sometimes they just give it away and if you buy it It's like less than a dollar, they'll even cut it. the wood to you free now i coffee stained my wooden boxes because my scrap wood was a little darker than the very light wood the boxes were on i didn't touch the scrap wood i got and all i have to do is just take some wood glue and i recommend wood glue for this make sure your wood glue is interior exterior if you are putting this outside and apply your boxes to your scrap lumber or dollar lumber whatever wood you are using now i mean i put some wood glue on the corners of box 2 to hold it in place and now we have a few more options dude you can use one of these metal letters or words that dollar tree sells for spring and easter or christmas you can put a name in there or letters in there i made this for a neig hbor so she gave me some house numbers she already had so thats what i added to this and then to hang this you can get some cups general dollar sells them for just a dollar and then i used part of the plant hanger that came with the wire hanging plant basket we made in a diy beauty eyes wise back and this is how i hung this or this is how she hung this and then she didn't put the flowers directly on the wood she put little pots in there and this is held up great looks great like she was really impressed i told her i wasn't 100 sure the wooden boxes would stay together but they have done it and it still looks good today number 14 so quick and easy you just need a dollar tree plate this is not a super large plate i would say its a smaller to medium size and one of their larger metal cans small ones, hot glue them together and then do the same with Dollar Tree's charger plate and one of their larger metal garden cans for extra longevity. use stronghold gloss for longevity use stronghold glue as gel super glue can use these 6000 im not an e6000 gal i know they are odorless but i get a headache even if i cant smell it i dont know what it is i eat the way i works gel super glue and then you can spray paint them or i say spray paint or hand paint just know its pretty interchangeable unless i say otherwise you can always spray paint or hand paint i love them because you can use these indoors serving for dinner or just use them outside for planters on my porch and we're on to the next one.
There are so many things that the dollar tree fits perfectly like these bell clutches. I'm still not sure how to put it. I've heard it said that both ways the hoods collide and this cement feel or cement look not sure exactly what material it is probably a ceramic chandelier those two fit perfectly together how this looks so fancy to me it's just a cool shape of displaying things now you can do anything with This I bought to display some dried flowers I have and I have it by my bed. I love how it looks. It almost reminds me of the beauty and the beast feeling, but I made another one because I don't.
I don't know it's just kind of cool just a little more I think it gives your decor a little extra flair and I also used this outdoors for matches and candles last summer to put them up like that when it rained they wouldn't get wet now, when i originally made this video i had two different crowns here and i pulled one out because i think i'm the only fan of crowns. I know people don't get as excited about wreaths as I do, but I'm telling you that you can still make some really nice dollar tree wreaths, you only need five flowers, you know different sizes and colors, and then you can pick five eucalyptus selections from walmart and this is only 97 cents so in total so far including the corona forma we have spent 11. now to use just five of the la euca lyptus picks you want to make sure you spread and fluff them up you are not just stabbing them and leaving them stiff you want fluff them up then add your bigger flowers and go back and add your smaller flowers and this looks really nice you have to fluff it up to hide those bald spots you know it's like your hair sometimes i have really thin hair but the decision in game time i went back and added some baby breath though this didn't make it fuller so you could skip it completely so i went from a crown 11 to a crown 12 and found myself Santa, I love, I love this crown.
I wish I had used a different larger size flower, well no I don't wish I would want to make another one. one, but I use it right after Christmas and will be using it all spring. I actually wear it for summer and was meaning to make a different one with more summer flowers, but I love how that wreath looks now. deal which I think is still a good deal for a dollar 25 on the dollar tree will be their wall decals some of them like this giant wall map now this is not 100 accurate and we'll get to that later but also you could use two dollar trees mdf board signs as your house signs but where the signs whatever you have and stick them like most of this video.
I am using scrap only because it lasts longer. It's free and, in my opinion, sometimes it looks better. just cut out a few pieces so it's not accurate but like something's going to be there instead of nothing you know what I'm saying and then just painted over that to hang this. The scrap wood I used was super light and I just used the command. ties in the back so this is totally decorative this is not totally accurate but i love the way it looks i put it in my son's room but i think this would look great in an office, a kid's room boy um a living room only you know if you have like a wonderlus t travel style in one of your if that's just your style would look great too or just afancy look in a classroom number 18 that I originally planned to give as a gift and it's such a cool DIY you can use pumpkin spice or cinnamon any spice that smells good and one of the glass cups from dollar trees but by the way , I saw the same glass cups at Walmart for 94 cents also the same and then you just need a few candles preferably white at least one of them should be white you are going to melt them but don't fill the cup all the way ok then you're going to come back with the leftover wax add as much or as little spice as you like just enough to make it a darker brown color and pour that on top of the candle before it's completely dry which really almost sprinkles on the top the frosting or the cherry on top sprinkle a little more of the pumpkin spice or cinnamon or whatever spice you are using and it makes it looks like a cappuccino it also smells really real lmly n ice too and if you wonder what it looks like when it burns I mean it burns good it still looks great from the outside while it burns it doesn't smell as good I'd say once it hits or the smell isn't as strong once it gets to the white part but works well and for number 19 you only need two mats. go with this one flip them over so the words or design are on the back tape them then use some hot glue to add a shelf liner or you can use a non slip rug backing but ya know what are shelf liners in my opinion. it actually works better and is cheaper per roll so either works, then tape it down and then just spray paint.
I used white so it can be used year round and that's it, then you can layer it. I used a dollar. general five dollar welcome mat for fall and then i use it for christmas too if you wonder how long this will last long so if you go back to last year's video my top 20 video last year i shared a door different mat I made two years ago and I'm still using it and after Christmas that's what I'll be using again I just wanted a darker look for fall and Christmas like spray paint doesn't fade with spray paint huh?
Have you done this before? you accidentally spray painted a shoe or something or your clothes it doesn't really come off and we're at the last one where you just need some of the dollar tree pop up stickers and any tray you can use a dollar tree tray but check outside the walmart clearance section you all can find some really cool DIY hidden gems in there all you have to do is just put the stickers all over your tray and this is something else that would work great in a flower pot. I'm into candles, you could do this in a lamp, decorative balls, I even bet this would look cool if you did this in decorative balls and then go back and spray paint.
Now the cool thing about spray paint is because I wasn't sure. how good would it look after spray painting if co I would just say they were decals since these decals came in lines but you can't and the nice thing about spray paint is that it covers it up and really seals it so the decals don't jump or stick like almost. you mold it to the tray it looks like one big piece and by the way those coasters and that cross were in last year's top 20 video as was the rug i was talking about now this DIY is not on the list because i was in a video i was really just showing things you could do with the dollar tree and the full diy i didn't use the whole dollar tree just the bench top which we also did very similar to the tray we did except that I didn't stain the jingle pieces first so to finish this you have to have table legs and that's why I really don't like putting it in a dollar DIY store because you can't get table legs or substitute something at a comparable price for a dollar but i love how this bench turned out by the way total price 23 23. under 23. that includes the table legs i love the way it turned out hey that's all thank you so much for looking my friend and you i will find out next time
