The basis for Splatoon was originally from a demo by show director Shintaro Sato, which featured "tofu-like blocks" with black and white quotes shooting ink in a maze. Number six, before Splatoon's iconic squid kids, the Inklings, the team struggled to find their character's change from their tofu box prototype to gun-shooting rabbits.

Number seven, in an interview with Famitsu, producer Hisashi Nogami and art director Seita Inoue talked about their design process for the Inklings. In an interview with Famitsu, Inoue and Nishimori stated that during development, They focused their designs on the Inkling girl. If I lived in Japan, I would count as part of those 75. Just sayin'! Number 12, sound composer Yuki Tsuji confirmed that some sound effects were created from scratch. Tsuji purchased several very sticky materials to create the ink sound we know. Number 13, Splatoon has a dark secret hidden within its colorful, inky goodness. According to sunken scrolls found when playing the single-player story, the world of Splatoon is set after the extinction of most surface creatures due to rising sea levels. Number 14, speaking of extinction and the Sunken Scrolls, humans are apparently extinct in the world of Splatoon. Sunken scroll number 26 features the fossil of a human in the middle of some kind of ritual play.
Also found in Sunken Scroll is a game disc, a Wii U case, a Wii U gamepad, and a strange combination of a Wii U pro controller and Wii Remote Plus. Number 15, Surprise! On Splatoon's official Tumblr page, Nintendo released a clever trick to give the second player motion controls for the Battle Dojo mode. Since the Wii U Pro controller did not have motion controls, the Wii Remote Plus would provide the motion. Number 16, Splatoon, was first revealed at E3 2014, featuring only a stage and barely any weapons. The development teams stated that the game was only 10% complete at the time.
We've come a long way, haven't we? Number 17, if you look out the window outside the battle dojo, you will see three controllers; a white Wii U Gamepad, a gray pro controller, and a black pro controller. Issue 18, after the reveal of Splatoon at E3 2014, Hounori, author of Spoof on Titan, a

super

warped Attack on Titan spin-off series, contributed artwork in support of this series. Number 19, Splatoon, also caught the attention of Masahiro Anbe, author of the squid-centric series Ika-Musame, or Squid Girl. After the reveal, a rough translation of what Anbe had said reads: "I couldn't help but draw somehow." It doesn't end there!
Until the release of Splatoon, Masahiro Anbe continued to create Inkling Girl tribute illustrations, such as Inkling Girl in a schoolgirl outfit, a pink Inkling Girl, Inkling Girl vs Squid Girl, and more! After drawing so many tributes to Splatoon, Nintendo decided on an official Splatoon crossover with Ika Musume, complete with illustrations by Shiho Fujii. The Squid Girl costume was released worldwide as part of a massive update in August 2015. Anbe even drew an Inkling girl in the Squid Girl costume! How wonderful! Number 20, in the game, there is gear that references other games like the Super Mario series such as The Black Pipe Tee sold at Jelly Fresh.
It features elements from the Mario series such as pipes and blocks. Oh, did we mention it exists in real life too? Yes, you can really buy it. Number 21, Nintendo's popular amiibo line of functional toys comes to Splatoon. The amiibo versions of Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Inkling Squid were released with the release of Splatoon. These amiibo unlock various challenges and EXCLUSIVE gear in the game. Nintendo of America released these amiibo in packs of 3. Elsewhere, such as Europe and Japan, these amiibo are sold in separate packaging. Number 22, the Splatoon amiibo can even be used in Super Mario Maker.
This makes Mario look like a girl, a boy, or a squid. In water levels, the Inkling will even turn into a squid. Issue 23, when Splatoon was first released, it featured a total of 5 maps, 1 game mode, and a handful of different weapons and a variety of equipment. With the release of several updates and downloadable content, Splatoon now features a total of 14 maps, 3 ranked game modes, 1 regular mode, squad battles, private battles, 2 brand new weapon types and a ton of equipment, and all this additional. Content was added for free! At number 24, there's also the well-dressed cat, Judd. Or at least he seems well dressed.
When Judd doesn't sleep, he determines the winner of the match. Number 25, Judd's name is actually a derivative of the word judge, which is what Judd does after a game. Judd's Japanese name is also Jajji-kun, which, when pronounced, sounds like "Judge." At number 26, in 2014, Splatoon won a Game Critics Award for Best Original Game. Number 27, there is a mod created by SethBling, with the help of PyroPuncher, that allows you to play a Splatoon-like game mode in Minecraft. It comes complete with different weapons that represent the different types of weapons available in Splatoon. Number 28, Splatoon's influence also reached Team Fortress 2.
YouTuber DrLilRobot, along with a small development team, created Splat Fortress, a mod that allowed players to play a Splatoon-based game in Team Fortress 2. Number 29 , in the Splatoon special Festivals called Splatfests are held in Inkopolis. These events pit two opposing teams against each other. The first Splatfest launched on June 13 in Japan and July 4 in North America, Europe, and Oceania. Number thirty, during Splatfest, the daytime plaza of Inkopolis becomes a nighttime concert, complete with dancing! At No. 31, world regions actually get different themes for Splatfest, with North America getting “Cats vs. Dogs”, Europe and Oceania obtaining “Rock vs. Pop” and Japan getting “Rice vs Bread” as their first themed battles.
Issue 32, on August 29, the Splatfest theme gave North American players the opportunity to choose the Transformer team of their choice, Autobots or Decepticons. Each team's cues wore t-shirts that respectively displayed the symbol of their team's name. uses trademark properties Number 33, during Splatfests, Judd can be seen dancing on his box instead of taking a nap. His pillow also seems to be missing. Number 34, when you don't approach him, Captain Cuttlefish shakes his head. with the music of Splatfest Number 35, did you know that there was Splatoon-inspired frozen yogurt in Canada? For a limited time, Yogurty's and Yogen Fruz stores offered the Splatoon-inspired Squidsicle, which is a mango sorbet, and Inkberry, a strawberry ice cream. yoghurt.
Number 36, the Splatoon soundtrack was released on October 21, 2015. It is appropriately called Splatune. I see what they did there. Number 37, the Splatoon soundtrack consists of music from various fictional musical groups from the world of Splatoon, such as Squid Sisters and Squid Squad. Number 38, two more bands, Chirpy Chirps, known as ABXY in Japan, and Hightide Era, were added in Splatoon's August update. Number 39, the Chirpy Chirps album cover features all four members of the band. Upon closer inspection, the band member on the far right has a t-shirt that vaguely resembles Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Number 40, also the band member Chirpy Chirps on the far left, wears a t-shirt that features what appears to be the ZR button on the Wii U gamepad, but in the language seen in Splatoon.
Number 41, despite the name of their group, the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie, are not actually sisters. According to sunken scroll number 17, Callie and Marie are actually cousins. Number 42, Callie and Marie… Callie… Marie… Calimari! Callie and Maire is a play on words about a plate of fried calamari. In issue 43, Callie and Marie can be seen in the second floor studio of Inkopolis Plaza. If the player looks at them for a certain period of time, they will both wave back. Number 44, if you are next to the train in Inkopolis Plaza, a jingle version of “Fuel the Melody” by the Squid Sisters can be heard coming from the train.
Number 45 When creating a private room, a password screen appears. Like a keyboard, each number button is linked to a musical note. You can actually play the melody for "Fuel the Melody" if you press the keys in the correct order. Issue 46, during Splatfest, Callie and Marie can be seen performing in Inkopolis Plaza, instead of sitting in their studio. Number 47, Callie and Marie's clothes change color to match the color of the Splatfest teams they represent, much like your own intuition. Number 48, speaking of colors, if you go to Callie and Marie after a game, the color schemes of their chairs will match the colors of the two teams in your last game!
The main color represents the "bad guys", while the arrows represent the "good guys". Issue 49, before they became squid idols, the development team decided that Callie and Marie were originally going to be “shrine maidens,” with the ability to transmit messages from the gods to people. Issue #50, Sunken Scroll #23 features the score by Calamari County's regular choir. When played, it sounds extremely similar to "Fuel the Melody" by the Squid Sisters. HMM...I wonder why... Number 51, the squid squad is made up of members Syn., Vo. & Gt., Ba. and Dr. These names. They are abbreviations for synthesizer, vocals and guitar, bass and drums respectively, and represent their roles in the band and are probably why they are so difficult to pronounce.
Number 52, Inkoplis has a small variety of shops. A store, Shrimp Kicks. , is owned by Crusty Sean, a Japanese tiger prawn. Crusty Sean's name is a play on the word "crustacean", which is the group of marine animals to which shrimp belong. I just want to take a quick break to tell you. what Super Coin Crew is all about. It's your channel for Nintendo non-stop! We have Splatoon, we have Super Mario Maker and we have Nintendo products and everything Nintendo related! Join Coin by subscribing! Getting back to the facts, number 53, Crusty Sean may look like a fried shrimp, but the fried exterior of him is actually a designer jacket.
That's a little morbid. Plus, he looks at his tiny feet! Number 54, Jelly Fresh, owned by Jelonzo, is a play on words for "jellyfish." Very appropriate, since the owner IS a jellyfish. Number 55, Cooler Heads, a headwear store is owned by Annie and Moe. Annie is a sea anemone and Moe is a clown fish. Also, Annie and Moe said that together it's a play on words for "anemone." In issue #56, Moe sits on Annie's hair, representing the symbiotic relationship between the clownfish and the anemones. Number 57, there is the amiibo box in Inkopolis Plaza, and players can only see the front, but did you know that it is like a real amiibo box?
There's even text detailing the amiibo features written in the Inklings language right on the back. Number 58, Sheldon, owner of Ammo Knights, is a horseshoe crab. HisThe name derives from “shell,” which represents the large shells that horseshoe crabs have. Its shell is located on top of its head. Number 59, Ammo Knights also sounds like “Ammonites,” which were prehistoric squid-like creatures. Thank you Animal Crossing and your wonderful, wonderful museum! Without you, I would never have known. Number 60, Sheldon's grandfather is Ammoses Shellendorf. He is responsible for all the weapon blueprints he collects, such as the Hero Shot, Roller and Charger replicas, Aerospray MG and RG, Dynamo and Gold Dynamo Roller, and more!
Number 61, to add to the wonderful list of puns, Booyah Base, the name of the small shopping center in Inkopolis Plaza, is a play on words for "Bouillabaisse", which is a fish stew originating in France. Number 62, as we said before, during development, there was a possibility of Splatoon becoming a Mario spin-off. That, of course, didn't happen. However, in Urchin Underpass, a small 8-bit Blooper sticker can be found on the side of the map. You can also find a Blooper sticker in Flounder Heights! The bloopers, of course, are from the Mario franchise and are even more stickers! Urchin Underpass also includes a sticker from another popular series, The Legend ofZelda.
An 8-bit Octorok sticker can be found on the opposite side of the map. An Octorok sticker can also be found at Bluefin Depot and in Flounder Heights, a Gunion sticker can be found. Another Mario reference, this time from Super Mario Land. Number 63, to celebrate the release of Splatoon, Nintendo hosted an event called Splatoon Mess Fest, which featured many games based on Splatoon and hosted many celebrities including James Marsden with his daughter, Alli Simpson, Willow Shields, Ty Simpkins and Nolan Gould. In issue #64, Famitsu held a “Splatoon Squid Fashion Contest” for Japanese fans, where the winner was honored to have his costume added to the game.
The winning design was a sushi chef costume. Number 65, the Famitsu contest also awards the “runner-up”. The Splatoon development team chose three designs and the winners receive a poster signed by the developers. Another set of three designs was chosen by Famitsu and the winners also received a signed poster. Number 66, before the release of Splatoon, Nintendo launched a special event called “The Global Testfire.” This allowed people to play and try out Splatoon before purchasing it. Issue #67, SPOILER ALERT, DJ Octavio, the final boss, was originally supposed to be a wasabi chef. This was eventually changed to the final boss we know today, the great DJ Octopus.
Number 68, despite being an online multiplayer game, Splatoon does not have a voice chat feature. Co-director Yusuke Amano says that due to the negativity surrounding online voice chat, they decided not to add a voice chat feature. Issue 69, Sunken Parchment #8 refers to John Milton's Paradise Lost. It is shown in a painting of a pair of Octarians, similar to the illustration of Adam and Eve found in Paradise Lost. The title of the scroll is even “Paradise Lost,” but instead of John Milton, it's Octoangelo! Issue #70, Sunken Scroll #10 shows the evolution of the Inklings. This image is a reference to the numerous representations of the evolution of man.
Number 71, each Sunken Scroll has a small character drawn in the lower right corner. If you flip through Sol's controls, it acts like a little flip book and you can watch the character transform from Zapfish, to Judd, and then to Sheldon. Number 72, a street urchin is a person who spends most of his time on the streets, mainly in the slums of large cities. Spyke is a sea urchin that can be found in an alley in Inkopolis Plaza. He is literally a street urchin. Number 73, when you go to Spyke, you can see sea snails to the left of him and sea snail shells to the right of him.
On the left, the sea snails seem to tremble. So there is some speculation that Spyke eats his sea snails, and that, of course, is supported by the fact that sea urchins are natural predators of sea snails. There's also the ominous s

crew

driver right next to it and sometimes s

crew

drivers are used to open shells of some sea creatures, come on Spyke. Issue #74, during Inkopolis News, when Walleye Warehouse appears in the rotation, Callie and Marie reveal that they used to work there! Marie even mentions how often Callie broke the assembly line. Issue 75, when talking about Walleye Warehouse, the different versions of Splatoon seem to contradict Marie's dialogue.
In the European version of the game, Marie says that she still has her work uniform. In the North American version of the game, Marie says that she burned her uniform after leaving him. Issue #76, during the Moray Towers news, Callie declares "The rollers are

super

effective!" while Marie responds: “Chargers are the best, like a gun never was!” Both lines are references to Pokémon phrases "It's super effective!" and "I want to be the best, like no one else ever was!" That's great! Number 77, as if you haven't spent most of your life on Splatoon, Nintendo released a web app called SplatNet, which allows players to keep track of which maps are in the next rotation, see what their friends are doing, check about your equipment, stats and planned battle times, and more!
Number 78, if you look closely, you can find photos of Callie and Marie posted in the corner of Captain Cuttlefish's shack. Now, why would Captain Cuttlefish have a photo of Callie and Marie... Hmm... Number 79, as of September 2015, more than two point four million copies have been sold worldwide. Number 80, before and after a boss battle, if you listen closely you can hear very strange noises coming from the stage. Number 81, when you enter Ammo Knights, you can access the shooting range. The shooting range has a basketball hoop. If you throw a secondary weapon through the hoop, your Inkling actually said something.
Give it a try next time you test your gear! Issue 82, in an article in EDGE Magazine, it is stated that the Inklings gain full control of their human and squid forms at the age of 14. This would make all Inklings in Splatoon at least 14 years old! Number 83, the rain-making weapon is based on the creature from Japanese folklore, the Shachihoko. It is said that the Shachihoko has the power to cause rain. It makes a lot of sense! Number 84, Judd wasn't always judging Turf Wars. He was once owned by a human before sea level rise and the events in Splatoon.
Number 85, we mentioned earlier that Judd is, quote, "well dressed." Even though the cat may look like he's wearing a fancy suit, that's just his natural coat pattern! In issue #86, a photo of Sheldon's relative can be seen hanging on the wall in the back of Ammo Knights and he has a rather large mustache. This relative is not seen anywhere else in the game. Number 87, Callie and Marie have style, we know. The hats they wear actually resemble the way squid is prepared. Callie's hat looks like a piece of Ikayaki, a fried or grilled squid. Marie's hat looks like a squid ring.
Number 88, have you ever wondered what happens if you don't ink a map at all? Judd LIES and makes a team win anyway. Number 89, the Splatoon we know today, requires some skill to maneuver through the ink, whether on the floor or walls. The developers questioned why walls should be tinted and removed the feature for a period of time. The winner of the match was decided by which team covered the largest area on the map and since the map was viewed from above, the walls were not visible at all. It wasn't until the Inklings and their ability to immerse themselves in ink arrived that inking walls gave teams tactical advantages.
Issue 90, Splatoon's street aesthetic came to life because a staff member really liked that style, according to Hisashi Nogami. Furthermore, during an interview with EDGE, Nogami stated that they are often told that they are a young group. Since the main design team is in their 30s, it means they grew up in the 1990s when skateboarding and street styles were in fashion. In issue #91, Hisashi Nogami compared the concept of Splatoon to the joy of making a mess. Nogami said it was like vandalism. By issue #92, the hype over Splatoon was at its highest in Europe, so high that a truck containing several copies of Splatoon was hijacked.
Copies of the standard edition, special edition, and some amiibo figures were stolen, all of which were in that truck. At number 93, Splatoon stores sell various fictional brands. Those marks are not meaningless. Each clothing brand has a higher chance of obtaining a certain skill within the game. Number 94, co-director Tsubasa Sakaguchi's favorite weapon is the "Jet Sweeper", known as the "Jet Squelcher" in the localized versions of the game. This shooter has long range and a good rate of fire. Number 95, in Inkopolis Plaza Plaza you can see 2 indicia dancing next to a window at any given time. This was based on people in Japan dancing in front of shopping malls after closing time.
Part of the development team took the motion capture of the dance routines and added them to the game. 96 co-director Sakaguchi's dance skills apparently weren't very good, so they scrapped his routines. When the development team first implemented dial controls, they feared that players would find them difficult. However, they compared it to learning to ride. It would take a lot of practice, but once you learn, a whole new world opens up to you and it's just great. Splatoon's Squid Kid television commercial, number 98, gave rise to the message "You're a kid, you're a." "Squid" meme. Callie and Marie sometimes reference this meme during their Inkopolis news announcements.
The number 99, the Inklings we know as the main characters of Splatoon, is also the name of a group of writers including J. R. R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, among others. Also a Wacom pen... wow, this is getting confusing. 100 squid-themed 8-bit arcade games were included in Splatoon. These can be played by going to the arcade machine at Inkopolis Plaza or by selecting them on the gamepad while waiting for a match to begin. By default, only one game is included: Squid Jump. Additional games such as Squid Racer, Squid Ball, and Squid Beatz can be unlocked by completing certain amiibo challenges.
Number 101, many of Splatoon's weapons are based on real-life objects. Rollers and brushes are the most obvious examples and are based on paint rollers and brushes. Certain shooters, such as the Aerospray RG and Aerospray NG, look a lot like airbrush guns. The splatters added in the August update look like paint buckets. The 102nd Splatoon Mii costumes have been released for Super Smash Brothers for Wii U and 3DS. Inkling costumes are available for Mii fighters in the paid DLC and give your Mii fighter a Splatoon look. The music for issue #103 was composed by Toru Minegishi, known for his work on several Zelda games, and Shiho Fujii, known for her work with games such as Animal Crossing City Folk and several games in the New Super Mario Bros. series.
Issue #104, Zapfish is used to power Inkopolis and beyond. The Japanese word for Zapfish roughly translates to "catfish battery." Possibly this is a reference to how certain catfish are capable of producing electrical charges. Issue 105, Sunken Scroll #16 reveals much more than meets the eye. We see an Octoling that looks a lot like DJ Octavio and an Inkling that looks like Captain Cuttlefish, although several years younger. DJ Octavio also appears to have the ability to assume a human form, similar to Captain Cuttlefish. Issue #106, Camp Triggerfish, was released in July 2015. It was the first multiplayer scenario to feature a changing element.
When playing a turf war, with one minute left in the game, the normally closed floodgates open allowing access to the enemy base from a new angle. The Urchin underpass number 107 is the only section so far that has received major renovations; expanding your playing field and adding more ways to enter the fray.
