what's up guys larry chan here welcome to another episode of hoonigan autofocus we're at the holly ellis fest in beautiful las vegas not so beautiful right now because we're in the middle of the sandstorm that's why we're filming next to the ladies' room ok yeah I think it's amazing we're filming right next to the women's bathroom what a nice place here but we have an amazing car here that I wanted to introduce actually when I saw it it blew my mind. i got jessie from jesse's performance where are you from jesse fortworth texas and you came all the way here just for the holly ellis festival just because yeah yeah it was a long drive thanks for bringing it and you also brought a bunch of other cars we're going to present probably too well probably yes we brought four in total one of them is an ugly duckling but the other two look pretty good yeah

am should be if it came out today almost as a state of supercar running right here that was my intention is to keep the original feel of the car as you know because it's a bit nostalgic and iconic I wanted to keep that but I wanted to have everything modern you could put on it yeah and the first thing I noticed of course is the wheels so I guess you probably went all out to make some custom wheels yeah q They look like old style wheels, right?

What I did was pair up with year one and we made these wheels that they had. They came out with the 17 by nine cast wheel and we used that as the base for their 18 by 12. Wow okay so we can take a look at it real quick on this side you can go here yeah yeah is this something you really can you buy or is this personalized that you made? It's got the wheels on it looks amazing I mean because part of it is it can look off if it's a different kind of wheel or if it's one of those things where you look at it from afar and you can't really put your finger on what's different because it's the same style as the stock wheel yes but he went ahead to essentially modernize yes the stock wheel was very important to me because uh to have it proportionally correct because there are a lot of companies that make replicas and stuff for the style, but they just don't.

It looks pretty good and I wanted it to look like this wheel came on this car, you know, yeah, so in terms of

body

work, what else have you done to the exterior of this? As for the exterior, there are different fender flares. they're actually three inches wider in the front and two inches in the rear, because the car's track width is actually four inches wider than factory, oh wow yeah so this is pretty subtle, so, all these things still fit together. it's wider though ri ok yeah it's basically all pulled and stretched and tucked in so it's still metal yeah it's all metal it's just a full metal car yeah these are actually original the original fenders for the car we retrofitted, oh wow yeah that's awesome ok?

What about the paint obviously you guys redid that yeah yeah actually I restored the car a couple of years ago and it was in a bad accident it was destroyed so we put it on a spit we blasted it sand and built it from scratch. it looks so good and these things are painted on no those are the real ones like factory correct stripe kit it's amazing how much effort they put into keeping it in stock but it's not quite right yeah what then what what about this decal? shooting chicken as people call it something that is actually just a factory decal that would have come on this car like it was just trying to do it basically restore the exterior of the car with added performance can we take a look at the engine bay?

I don't speak like it's usually a wordless moment like shocking I just can't and don't want to say this is the thing is this is legitimately like a supercar version of the

am yeah yeah I mean and it's, it's crazy it's even even surreal to me at times that it's gotten this far knowing what you know these cars start like huh okay so tell me what I'm looking at here so it's a performance dart block of oaks 427 huh with

s has a billet intake are uh 220 pound injectors runs full e85 thats t56 magnum uh monster triple disc clutch i mean it has 1400 horsepower with pretty low boost how does this drive on the highway? i mean this is a street car i still drive this car every day yeah well it has air conditioning too yeah i ne ed that driving in texas oh yeah yeah it's hot yeah so um i mean it actually has really good street manners it stays pretty cool i got a great cooling system i mean that's what really amazes me is how all of this ended up is you did your best to, i guess, sort this all right yeah um it was important for me because there was a lot of dead space when we finished we put every we put a lot of stuff in every nook and cranny it doesn't have a finished look so we did these panels and they came out great I mean you know and we couldn't use internal fenders from factory because of the tires and wheels you know and it's i got aftermarket subframes so the factory inner fenders wouldn't work so we used we built our own gu mudguards and heavens so this is all something you guys built yeah yeah yeah awesome huh? no drag race no with this setup i don't have but i mean i've been to mexico a couple of times and it's ok you guys like mexico yeah ok yeah just no i was speechless.
Me and I put the quietest exhaust on here I could build like it's three inch stainless steel with the bigger magnaflows they sell like they're diesel mufflers so where did you learn how to do this? this car with my dad and then I got into a bunch of import stuff and learned manufacturing that way for a while and then decided to open my own business to get this car back on the road and it was like learning like you go almost As far as using the holley and wiring and all that stuff, it was just learning as you go and you know, yeah, I mean, just the

turbo

s are something else cool, can we take a look inside? yeah sure so the interior is just as finished that's the part of this car that is very iconic and i didn't want to take away from the car is the engine turns gold and the steering wheel is gold and you know the seats two tone and stuff this is actually 1979 original factory stuff no way yeah but then it's put on a modern seat no these are actually 1980 recaro trans am seats so not original from this car but they come from the model year after this one yeah so i wanted to have that like is this original? is it so? maybe not original.
It feels like it knows and yeah I mean and it also mates great with a bolt cage yeah that's a ridetech tiger cage yeah yeah it works fine I mean and we have a double din radio and it knows things like that. you just know gps and all that stuff just modern conveniences you need awesome yeah i'm sure you get a lot of thumbs up when you drive this thing yeah from all walks of life i love it so all the gauges are everyone changed the auto gauge now so it's crazy how much have you got to keep it on looks yeah but it's not really right um yeah because even if you've ever seen it inside these cars it actually has gauges in each of these holes, I did not drill any additional holes.
I didn't do anything extra crazy it looks original as I could and what about the wheels so it's like a reproduction of the original first year wheel and it's got a full stereo subwoofer it's all um it's got lizard skin dynamat Ceramic mat on it so it seems like it's super quiet to drive on the highway it's super you know it's tame it's smooth I mean it probably gets 18 mpg cruising like it's pretty nice um and then what kind transmission is this is a t-56 magnum well you've done a great job with this i mean i don't think uh i really don't know what else to say i mean it's just amazes me how it fits and finishes it really is like that last five percent you have i guess uh put your hands to get this point right and it looks so good i appreciate it and even the paint is so good yeah it's uh it's one more paint job old but it's yeah it's supposed to be doing pretty well and there's a lot of things the normal guy wouldn't see like the glass is a flush mount glass that doesn't have the right edge so I mean it was an order Festler special I mean there's a lot of little things about this car that if you don't know these cars it just looks like a really nice stock car and that's what we're after huh can we take a quick ride I'm scared to ride this huh yeah we'll see I got this I got the button and that turns on the boost control so that button has 400 horsepower huh so at the gate it does a thousand and it turns it on gives you an extra at least bald eagles yeah bald eagles oh wait oh yeah this is a good ripper rig here you wanna rip it up yeah right oh my god that sound is so crazy yeah I think we're on the wrong side of the road this yeah it's cool oh my gosh it's like the world ends when you bloom into this thing yeah it's pretty crazy because it's so quiet there's no buildup or anticipation it's like everything happens crazy at once yeah honestly when you're just hanging around right now it's not a big deal it doesn't seem that crazy wow like i said it's just you know it just drives normally it drives like an old muscle car right now but as soon as you get in it's a crazy I couldn't even figure out what you think would work in the quarter I don't know if we could hook it up it would probably go 850 pretty easily I mean it's still a 4 000 pound car but yeah it's heavy yeah yeah I'm impressed that's cool that's cool because part of it with these old cars you know they need this they need modern handling brakes power obviously oh man you're like doing this

style justice you know part of it it's like i never knew s to your heroes, right?
I'm sure a lot of people when they drive the standard version are a little disappointed oh yeah this is amazing yeah yeah what a machine thanks man I appreciate it like I'm so glad you came all the way from Texas just to um, show some of the cars. showing some of the customer cars we'll be in on too but yeah it's awesome I'm so impressed yeah it was fun it was so much fun great it's great to see different builds from different places and different builders yeah lots thank you for showing us this, thank you, thank you, it really is like the whole. building and you're also driving it's pretty crazy it's cool to watch so yeah I just like being a humble person you know what I'm saying I don't like being arrogant and stuff there's no reason for that so let's keep filming ellis fest thanks as always to holly for having us it gives us a great platform to see all these cars from everywhere and yeah we're going to keep filming jesse's cars he's got a couple amazing builds and I think you'll love the next one yo , I.
