10 Pokemon with Useless AbilitiesJun 02, 2021
Gouri dings prevents Michael here and the good ability can change a Pokemon from very underwhelming and unimpressive to a meta defining threat like within Sinner or for example when I only had Blaze not used at all but then once that got bullied, it became one of the most used
pokemonin the entire VGC metagame, however that is definitely not the case for all
abilities, there are several
abilitiesthat do nothing, they don't work well for a specific
pokemonthat has it or they just damage the Pokemon. I thought it would be fun to compile a list of those situations, so this video will be ten instances of Pokemon that have
I'll start with the obvious ones which I'm pretty sure you already know about the first one. which is slack off slacking and Durant with the ability true I'd true want is an ability that only allows the Pokémon with it to attack once every two turns that's all that's all it does it's horrible if it wasn't for the true slacking wish would be to be an incredibly threatening pokemon, it has a total base stat of 670 with incredibly high physical attack stats and HP with respectable stats everywhere else except special defense, this total is tied with Kyogre and Groudon, which means the slack is literally at the level of legendary pokemon which is exactly why they gave it real odds the game devs decided that that power was too much for a regular non legendary pokemon to have plus it's a lazy, so slacking off is a total thing.
I don't really understand why Durant has it though I mean. Ants are supposed to be very hard workers, right? Why was an ant given an ability that has to do with laziness? Maybe they just wanted me to get the real training in the strategy where you give an opponent true desire, but I don't. I don't know, this doesn't make much sense to me. The next set of pokemon with a
uselessability you've probably heard of our Arkin and archeops with defeatist defeatist is an ability that causes pokemon attack and special attack stats will be when pokemon's HP drops below half, while this isn't as limiting an ability as true wish because if archeops stays healthy it will never experience the negative effects it's still a horrible ability this is another situation of a pokemon having great stats seeming too powerful eg which give him a hindering ability to balance things out however Archeops is based on a total of only 567 it's pretty good but not crazy okie I like it not good enough in my opinion as to guarantee the nerf he got i think it's a big shame archeops has this ability because i really like archeops he's my favorite fossil pokemon to and to me the fact that he was hampered when his stats aren't insane seems really unfair and the final entry on this list that focuses on a hindering ability is regigigas with a slow start for the first 5 turns after he regigigas enters battle is a tag stat and a speed stat r hat and if it changes and changes back on counter resets forcing you to wait those 5 turns again. 5 turns is also a pretty long amount of time in a Pokemon battle, so there's a good chance that before the slow start wears off, you'll have to switch the regigigas to faint. or the battle will end this again seems like a situation where a pokemon has stats actually Opie which seemed to Opie so they gave him the ability to balance things out. this is a different situation than slacking off because regigigas is a legendary pokemon he is the leader of a legendary trio he is supposed to be extremely powerful there was no reason for them to not only weaken him but hinder him so much that this legendary pokemon has been turned a practically useless pokemon, not even a widely used pokemon at the worst smog level, with the article saying that stout hland and kangaskhan are better normal types, why did they make it so unbelievably bad?
The first entries focused on situations where the ability itself is useless or harmful. The following entries will focus on situations where the ability isn't useless, but is on these specific Pokemon, the first of which ships with Insomnia or Vital Spirit because it has both. insomnia is an ability that prevents pokemon from falling asleep, this can be useful since most of the time sleep is not a good thing in a pokemon battle, the only time it is really bad is if you want to rest because insomnia prevents rest from work and spirit of life is an ability but it's literally the exact same thing they are identical in every way except name now there are plenty of examples of this same situation two different named abilities doing the exact same thing as battle armor and shell armor that protects from critical hits or air lock and cloud 9 that remove weather effects; however, those pairs are always on different species of pokemon delibird has insomnia and vital spirit, two abilities that do the exact same thing, this is a total waste of an ability slot because two of his three are occupied by the same thing, which which makes one of them useless whichever one is useless doesn't I guess it depends on personal preference so go for another similar instance it's the cling-clang evolutionary line with plus and minus if you don't know what plus and minus do probably either because he has never used them, which he would do a lot. makes sense because they're really bad abilities, all it does is give the pokemon with plus or minus a 50% boost to their special attack if another pokemon with plus or minus is also on their side of the battlefield, that's it.
It only comes into play in double battles and can only happen if you have two pokemon with more or less, but if these pokemon have more or less specifically it doesn't matter, you can have a combination of more and less, two more or two less, which means which the abilities think exactly wasn't always the case, although it had to be paired with generations three and four plus, for the boost to occur and vice versa, so if there had been a Pokemon that had access to plus and minus one of them weren't technically useless because you could have had another pokemon with solo so you needed the other to just have more but in generation five they made it so the plus and minus could be boosted by either and so so do the same. generation five was also when cling-clang was introduced, so there was never a time when having both made sense.
It's exactly the same situation as with Delibird: the ability slots are taken up by identical effects, although the pluses and minuses, as I said, aren't very good abilities. so if you're going to use a Kling Klang you always use a clear body so I guess both are useless. The following example is that a fan wrote ohm with levitation in case you don't know. it only changes its appearance but changes its writing, normally it is a type of electric ghost, but its writing can change to electric fire, electric water, electric ice, electric grass or electric flight, depending on the gadget it owns, the type of electric flight is Rotom fan, which makes perfect sense. a fan blows air and air is commonly associated with the flying type however while typing ohms the writing changes when he changes shape his non rotom ability always has levitation which most of the time is very useful rotom always he is an electric type and electricity is only a weakness he is ground so for most rotom forms levitation allows him to trade a weakness for an immunity the only two forms are this is not the case a rotom or where a neutral hit changes into an immunity since grass resists ground and a Rotom fan that changes an immunity. on an immunity Blind-type Pokémon are already immune to Ground-types, so an ability that gives you an immunity you already had does literally none of this.
It's such a funny and ridiculous thing that Smaug didn't decide to be cheeky so if ever a fan wrote ohm in the random battles in pokemon showdown he will be holding an air balloon the following entry is another situation where it is awarded immunity when one is not necessary, but being free and jealous not with moisture is an ability that prevents all pokemon on the field from being exploded, in other words, it prevents the use of self-destruct explosion and hallucinating mind also in the effects that I learned while researching this video is that it makes the pokemon with moisture take no damage from the aftermath, so that's kind of interesting, moisture can definitely be a useful ability, especially when trying to catch a pokemon that might just explode on its own. , it can also be used in trainer battles but it tends to be a bit situational, but for Jellison specifically it's a useless ability because he was already immune to explosions, at least it was before Blue Cephalon came along so both self destruct and explosion are normal type attacks which means the ghost type jealous int takes no damage from them the only explosive attack that can damage it is mind boggling, but that's only in a couple of games and it's very new and it didn't exist for all the other generations. you're jealous and it was wet, so let's just ignore the doom points for today.
If Jellison is out of moisture, the enemy explodes itself, but Jellison takes no damage. to KO in the normal way, which of course has its risks in a one-on-one trainer battle. I can't think of examples of when the opponent Kaling himself but not hurting you at all is not a desirable outcome now as I said there are some situations where moisture is useful, like trying to catch a wild pokemon that might explode or shield one of jealous allies in a double battle but most of the time moisture is a useless skill for jealousy now it's time for this episode attack yes it's still uni Fied mines I film this right after the above video and ain't been in history yet we have dark energy masculine munchlax reset seal score a pot vim pod noibat Sneasel sweet bound reverse holo unbuttoned an enforcer it's all trash the next entry is lady in with an iron fist it's true this isn't as pointless as the other entries on this list because it can still help technically it's just that if you're using queen and correctly it won't help Iron Fist is a skill that increases p oder of punch moves by 20% and one would think this is a good skill for Lane even because he can learn nine different punch moves, the problem arises due to the fact that all punch moves are physical attacks but the Lady Ins's physical attack stat is horrendous it's a 35:35 base attack stat flabébé has a higher physical attack stat and is a flabébé so in short a skill that helps with physical attacks on a Pokémon that should never use physical attacks is a useless ability for it. a similar but less extreme example is litleo and pyroar with moxie moxie is an ability that increases the pokemons physical attack by one level every time ko is an opponent this is a really good ability and one of my favorites since it's so much fun sweep the enemy Teams get stronger and stronger like you, however, Moxie only increases physical attack, therefore it is useless on a Pokemon that is primarily a special attacker. it would be silly to run physical moves on a PI R or because of this massive stat difference litleo's special attack is only 23 points higher than its physical but it's still special literally every other pokemon that has moxie has a physical attack higher than the special attack. because there's no point in having a strictly physical ability on a mainly special Pokémon, a PI R, or it's completely useless, so never go to the trouble of finding a hide. the den litleo ability because you don't want it another buff from the wrong stat situation is cherrim with gift of flowers gift of flowers is cherrim's signature ability and is what allows her to shapeshift in sunlight just like the shape of forecast of the forecast, however unlike the gift of forecast flower it gives us a stat boost to cherrim's sunny weather form Gives a 50% boost to cherubs and their allies physical attack and special defense stats as well that even though the special defense boost is good i think its good to have the physical attack boost its stupid cherubs best stat of all of them is their special attack why would they make this ability increase their worst attack stat?
An argument could be made for using this ability to boost Cherub allies in a double battle, but that only works in a double battle, so in a single normal battle. our gift just isn't good and the final entry on this list is another where the ability itself is bad every pokemon with illuminate startingfrom generation 7 there are 3 skills that h have no effect in battle, honey, rally, run away and enlighten. I know you're probably thinking I missed the pickup and while that was in gen three and four since gen five, if the enemy pokemon uses a single use item, the pokemon with pickup will choose to raise the item, even if it's a item that is not normally found on the pickup encounter table, but returns to abilities that currently do not have an effect on battle darling, rally and flee has uses in a game. bonding gives you free darling and fleeing allows you to keep a low level pokemon in front of your party that you're trying to level up without having to worry about getting caught up in a wild battle that you can't run away from but lights up the stink effect if a Pokémon with lighting is in front of your party, it makes wild Pokémon more likely to spawn the only scenarios where that is desirable if you're looking for a specific rare Pokémon like a shiny or low encounter rate Pokémon; otherwise it makes navigating through caves and navigating more annoying than it already is if i had a pokemon on my play team with illuminate i basically could never have it in front of my party unless i was using repellents religiously more than that it has an effect in battle, so you will almost always want to pick an ability for these pokemon that is better because all illuminated pokemon have other ability options that are far superior, in short, if you can avoid using an illuminate pokemon, you should, thank you very much for watching this video and if you enjoyed it and want to see more of my fun pokemon content I recommend this video here ok that's all I have for now so don't do it next time . catch the mom
