$1 Gen Set, They Gave Up, But Can We Fix It?

Dec 25, 2021
we get, it seems It's funny that as soon as I got out the spark checker that wasn't even full for five minutes, I did it. Let me take a quick look at the tank, the door says empty so yeah I still have gas, not much. what it does is ok let's see if we get out of it for fuel and what are we going to do if we have fuel here we're going to put the spark checker back on and see if it goes away that's not a lot of fuel ok? I'm going to put the spark checker back in and let it run again and see if it does.

Just try to identify what's going on, whether it's starving for fuel or the coil kicking back. Spark checker is on whenever you need choke. to start off so ok that spark definitely kept going until it went out but again i think we are very low on fuel let's open f's fuel line and see what kind of flow we get out of it my original thought was what that's how close those two are together I still think there's about two inches left on the bottom of the tank but you'd definitely think that so we got it and keep it right at height there really is no height difference it seems to have a good flow wait a minute we're running low no its definitely enough to keep up with what the generator uses and if the gas tank was holding. empty i think that would have appeared right now let it fill the whole glass but that took forever to happen so its not a spark we know its not a spark i watched it until it died and the spark went on all that Time, look how high we got. four shots that's not a huge difference so right there is how much fuel is in the tank right there what goes out that's the height okay so let's bring it back to the garage . the tank and uh do some ac homework Finally I'm going to put more gas in it and see if it repeats if it's just the fuel level or something that's really just screwing up if I put a bunch of gas in it and it goes away, just It's going to be a pain Don't go on it's so close give it a good gallon it seems weird as soon as I did that spark checker there's also the fact that I turned it off too so maybe I didn't get out of here without making a mess It's showing a quarter tank right now that's even more than we started the first time everything worked I think we're all hooked up it turns the gas back on um please check the spark it went out with A spark checker and so I just got a ton of gas.

If nothing is happening once again, we'll hit this checker out of the park. I think we pretty much got it for fuel. Run for a while bring her inside ok she'll probably edit a ton of video running and so I'll just do a quick synopsis of what happened that's the correct revision of the word let's go with it so I checked at first that the fuel was dirty it had no water is the first thing i was thinking about and was Thinking it was dying for the spark it was dying for the fuel so

they

put a spark checker on it watch it all the time never seen a spark that really misfired so the first time we went to turn it on there was nothing on the float ball it ran pretty fast i think it was about two minutes maybe i think that's i don't know if that's enough time just to burn the fuel that's in the float canister by itself without resetting it at all or soon after, but it wasn't a very long period of time, uh, so I just let it run and run and run with a spark tester.

I let it run on fresh fuel about a gallon and a half for an hour. I looked at the valve setting when it was hot. Valve clearance looked good. I was kind of thinking that possibly if a valve got hot it would start to lose compression and cause it to cut out or not work properly start to oscillate and cut out that wasn't the case it looked good already had a new carb put on it a new controller I think that this is for low oil shutdown only. I can unplug it from the system and it doesn't do anything so I think if this causes me to see the ground I would probably ground the system or open the season unplug the system and ground the coil I think that's where this wire goes I unplug it no it turns off nothing so i think this is how it is working again that was replaced also the plug was replaced i thought possibly the spark checker resistor might have changed the load on the coil and it hasn't caused the coil to overheat.

If that was a problem, it didn't seem to be the problem. I checked the removable panel on top. I took it out. something that causes in it tha If you unplug the remote that comes out of there, that would cause it to turn off. I unplugged it and plugged it back in. It was working the whole time. It didn't make any difference and then we got to the point where I started to let it run out of fuel it was probably about two inches or so and it happened at that point when I pulled the spark checker out of the circuit and turned it back on almost immediately or a couple minutes later it started to oscillate and I turned it off I pinched it I saw it was out of fuel but it's a little questionable I put the spark checker back in I think it did the exact same thing again we pinched the fuel not much fuel in the float took the ball the fuel line cut here tried to hold level and it seemed ok but if you raised this thing an inch it would shut off the fuel so i think it was starved for fuel i think the problem all along has been starved for fuel we checked the vent cap the vent cap seemed fine we found that little bug that was inside um that was causing a problem , no I really don't think so, if it was really close to the i I shouldn't say that and there's also a little piece of red stuff that I haven't been able to get out of there as well but it was pretty far from where the neck exit of gas so I don't really see either is the case so this is my opinion and it's just my opinion this is what I think is going on I think the fact that the routes of this fuel line go up and then down a little bit causes it to run out of fuel sometimes especially when the fuel starts to go down the vent cap i said it was working ran it without the vent camp and it did the same thing so thats the line on The one I'm thinking of, generally speaking, I've had problems before when you see this type of fuel filter with a paper filter. had problems with them before where there's a slight resistance in them that makes that's probably the best way to put it hold the air like you see fuel on one side of this so the fuel goes in depends on which direction you're going there's the filter but usually you want the fuel to go in to the outside we can see the contaminants go through the screen and then out through the fuel line that's usually how you set them up so you can see any contaminants going on I shot through that with air which opens up the little pores in the paper a bit. and it allows the fuel to go through it, it will seem like it's fine, but generally if I have something that has a fuel filter, um, it doesn't have a fuel pump, probably like four or five psi, it will pull through these, it won't no problem

they

are gravity fed especially the gravity feet that lock into each other at the height of that I'm not a big fan of these a lot of the times you'll see for example like lawn tractors that have a little bit of gas can the gas tank right above the carb but it still has a six inch dr on the carb the only filter they will use is those little little red ones and if you look inside them all they are is a piece of screen a just screen filament going through, not a paper filter so I'm kind of going to blame it on that.
I don't think there is anything in the fuel line that is like some sort of little flapper that locks and unlocks. I don't think that's the problem. I think it's just poor design. I guess what I'll do is in the future it continues depends on when you're looking at this video in the future if something happens where I find something else I'll write a comment and pin it in the comment it'll be right on top so you guys can go check it's alright that's what it was but for now i think what i'm going to do is probably install a new fuel line i'm going to relocate that fuel line i don't know we have to maybe right here it's ok to go downhill and back up but to get above a level and back down sometimes it's hard to go up with that p buzz especially when there's a little bit of drag on the filter that's what I was trying to recreate when I pushed the air through it and into the tank but again it only showed up when it finally ran out of fuel it probably had about two inches of fuel in it I was hoping for better than that but you know sometimes that's the way these things work well I don't plan them I just try to get something that has a problem and let's see if we can solve it and I can't choose what that result is so that's what it is you guys are more than welcome to write what your opinion is what you think is causing it what do you think uh i was wrong or i agree or disagree. feel free and if i see something that is uh you know it really stands out someone points there i'll try to pin it to the top too or put it hard or i don't know something that's right you can just pin a comment so the other what's up what to do is uh with these generators the low oil shutdown is a common Mon thing and what it is probably this probe coming out of the block has a little sensor just to make sure there is oil in there all the time and they could be very sensitive I think that was the first thing we did we popped the cap we actually saw it was a little fuller they can be very sensitive you will check the oil it will look like the oil is fine but you add about two ounces of oil to it and the problem will go away a little bit other things are like that too i think like walking behind leaf blowers some other items have the same problem and just turn the coil off and turn it off but yeah i dont see that being a problem because the spark stayed on the whole time someone is doing great guys with that i think we're going to log off i've had it i've seen this run for a couple of hours and my ears are ringing just hearing what it feels like being The power would have gone out at my house he's an idiot ok guys thanks for hanging out with me have some fun some ranching trying to troubleshoot i wish i had a more definitive result but i think i'm going for a 70 uh i'm right what are the problems are ok until then later
